"YOU ARE UNFIT, UNDESERVING OF ANYTHING! YOU ARE LESS THAN THE STONES WE CARVE. YOU EITHER FALL AMONGST THE REST OR BE USED AS LEATHER!" Roared Ovu. He picked up a loaf of bread that was sitting on the table and threw it against the cave wall. I stared at it with tears in my eyes as it fell to the ground.
"I-i'm s-sorry, it won't ha-happen ag-" I sheepishly spoke.
"IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN BECAUSE THERE WONT BE AN AGAIN!" He interrupted loudly. The room shook with his thundering voice. He turned around and stormed out as people who were watching the altercation fled as to not be ovu's next victim. I starred at the loaf of bread that now laid on the floor, compressed from the impact. Tears flowed down my face like a stream. I quickly covered my face so the others couldn't find a reason to belittle me, but it was no use.Ever since I was hatched, every little thing I have ever done was either terrible or not good enough. From digging to constructing, nothing I ever did was good enough. But one day I found a plank of wood sticking out of some dirt the miners were digging out, so I cleared the area around it and saw it was a box. As I pried it open, I saw that bones were littered inside, and underneath it I saw an old dusty book. I quickly grabbed it and ran off back to the sleed den to see what it was about.
As it turned out, the book was something called a "cook book" and it had many diffrent things inside. At first I thought it was a magic tome, but after I read it more I realized it was for making food. After countless hours of trials and test runs I finally perfected a few recipes in the book and gave them to a couple of the workers who were digging close by. They did not like it and immediately sent word to Ovu, our elected leader this season.
Ovu did not like what I was doing and tried to put an end to it, but it was only until now that he succeeded.
"Hey, it's ok, keglo," Ugot softly comforted me, "he just has a stone for a brain."
Ugot was the only one who didn't act like I was worthless. Even when he didn't fully understand what I was doing, he never ridiculed me.
"No," I replied while sobbing, "he's right, I am unfit to be here."
Ugot didn't respond, he was silent. I sat there, weeping softly, and he didn't say anything else. I heard him walk up to me. He grabbed my arms and pulled them to my side and sternly stared into my soul.
"He is right, you are unfit to be here, leave." Ugot demanded
I couldn't belive my ears. I thought Ugot was my friend, yet he wants me to leave because I'm unfit?
"W-what?"
"You heard me, you are unfit to be here. Ovu only wants subjects who listen to his every word, you don't listen. LEAVE!"
"But, my family is here"
"Your family doesn't speak to you, you have no friends besides me. If you stay here any longer, he will most likely KILL YOU."
"But-"
"NO, I WILL NOT STAND HERE AND WAIT FOR YOUR BURIAL, IF YOU WILL EVEN HAVE ONE! I WANT YOU TO LEAVE THIS PLACE BEFORE I HAVE TO TAKE ACTION!"I didnt know how to respond. My best friend wants me gone and I'll be all alone again. Surely that's worse than what Ovu would do to me, right? But before I could answer that thought, Ugot shoved me out of the room and in the direction of the entrance to the underground city, or in this case, the exit.
"I'm doing this to help you, leave... please" Ugot pleaded with me. It felt like time was slowing down, everyrhing was moving so slow it almost felt like it stopped. An eternity and even beyond that passed from the moment Ugot finished his plea and I found my words."Ok" I replied with tears forming in my eyes again, walking twords the exit of the place I once called home.
