The light was incredibly bright, blinding almost. Is this what the others called the sun? I raised my hand into the air to try and block the harsh glow from burning my eyes any further. As my eyes adjusted to the harsh light of surface, I was pushed to the hot cobble road.
"Get out of the way, lizard" Blurted a woman's voice in an insulting manner. As I tried to regain my footing, something snagged my foot, causing me to trip and fall again.
"I'm fairly certain the log books about your kind were a lie," she spoke again, "how can something like this be capable of feats like that? Preposterous." She walked away in a snooty manner, as if she was trying to act superior in some way. Her pale red dress said otherwise however.
I quickly scurried into a dark and cool alleyway as to avoid another altercation. As I sat against a moss-covered wall, I grabbed a small bread roll I had nabbed from kitchen before leaving. It was small, barely big enough to make me full, but it was better than nothing. I pulled little bits of it off and savored every small crumb.
As I was just about to eat the remaining few crumbs that fell from the roll and onto my hand, a small mouse skittishly ran along the alley wall infront of me, it's body scarily thin, and hid behind a barrel. It quietly squeaked and rubbed its face as it stared at me.
"Are you hungry?" I curiously asked. The mouse fully hid behind the barrel.
"I bet you are," i set the rest of the crumbs on the ground in front of me hoping for the mouse to eat it, "don't worry, I don't like mouse meat." The small creature carefully snuck close to the few crumbs and sniffed them. It eased up a little and nibbled at the crumbs. As it happily ate, I noticed something wrong with the mouse. It's tail looked hurt, like it was cut.
"Aw, you poor thing." I carefully spoke trying not to spook the mouse. It's tail looked like it wasn't bleeding, but it looked to be recent. After a few seconds of the mouse eating the crumbs, there was nothing left. It looked up at me with sad eyes as if to ask for more.
"I'm sorry, I don't have anymore." I apologized profusely, "I do have an idea though. If you come with me I can get you more food." The famished mouse gave a skeptical look before walking closer to me, sitting next to my foot.
"I'm going to be a great cook and make amazing meals, and I can make you extravagant feasts fit for a king. What do you say?" I asked holding out my hand. The mouse placed one paw on the tip of my claw and jumped onto my hand. It scurried up to my should and sat there like one of the birds I read about from a human book.
"A deals a deal, friend." I squeaked happily, "but what should I call you?" Upon hearing this, the mouse squeaked into my ear repeatedly.
"Well, I guess your names squeak." The mouse made what looked like a frown, but nuzzled into my jaw.
"Yeah, squeak, it really fits."
