"Oh the hell you are, Ava." A low voice commanded me.
I tightened my grip around the red cup in my hands, and stared the boy speaking to me up and down.
"I'm tired, Jack. I'm going home." I replied flatly.
As I turned to walk away, I felt a grip tighten around my wrist, and I winced in pain, spinning around to face a pair of dark, angry eyes that were dimly lit by the flames of the bonfire in front of us. Jack towered over me, his golden hair falling over his eyes. I stared back up at him, with a tense look in my eyes.
"Let me go." I growled at him, and ripped my wrist from his hands.
Shocked, his eyes widened in anger, then settled down to a numbing, calm look.
"Fine, fuck you." he spat at me, and began to walk the other way.
I said nothing, and began to make my way out of the twisted woodland to find the road.
I heard a drowned voice in the background yell "She's wasted, Jack. You can't let her off on her own."
I rolled my eyes and kept walking. I could take care of myself.
My chucks clicked against the sidewalk as the sound of cicadas screamed in my ears. I kept my eyes on the road ahead of me, barely lit by the passing headlights and flickering street lamp. It didn't take me long to realize I was the only one on the street at this hour. I checked my watch, midnight. I could barely hear the chorus of voices and music from the party I was leaving in the woods, and it slowly began to drown out the further I got. The further I walked, the more silent it got. I began to feel a wave of anxiety wash over me as I realized that there was no one around besides myself. I swallowed, and didn't stop walking. I wanted to get home as soon as possible. I drunkenly stumbled to my left, and fought to catch my balance. Once I regained myself, I tried to do my best to focus on my surroundings.
I swallowed, realizing I didn't recognize where I was at all. I was completely surrounded by woods and gravel roads. There weren't even any more passing cars around me, or so I thought. The breeze danced through the strands of my chestnut hair, blowing it into my face and eyes. Unable to see, I moved the pieces from my face, trying to gather some sort of information as to where I was.
I swallowed, resting myself onto a rock as I tried to figure out what I was going to dear. Reaching into my pocket, I pulled out my cell phone.
"Shit." I muttered, realizing my phone was completely out of battery.
I stood back up, exhaustedly dragging my feet behind me as I forced myself to keep following the road. I vaguely heard the sound of tires against the gravel road, and I watched the shadow of headlights grow bigger and bigger. Squeezing my shoulders with my hands, I turned to the side as the dark car slowed down beside me. I could barely make out the tinted windows of the dark grey car. The window slowly rolled down, and a pair of eyes stared back at me from the car.
Swallowing, I came closer, trying to hold my balance.
"You lost?" A deep voice asked.
I nodded, barely able to speak.
The man rolled the window down further, and I was finally able to see his faintly lit face. His dark hair brushed over his forehead, and his eyes were dark brown. He looked older than me, but not by much. I heard the passenger door open, and carefully made my way to the other side of the car. Sliding in, I held my breath.
Please don't be a serial killer.
The boy looked me up and down, and smiled, before shifting the car gears and driving forward.
"You're drunk." he noted, in a low voice.
"Maybe just a little." I laughed.
He kept a serious look to his face.
"Why the hell are you out here alone. You're completely.." He stopped "vulnerable"
I gave him a skeptical look.
"My asshole boyfriend and I got into a fight tonight." I huffed, sitting back against the carseat.
The man seemed amused, as I kept his eyes on the street, his brights lighting up the dark, farm road. I closed my eyes for a moment, feeling the heavy weights begin to press down on my face. Just like that, everything went dark.
