Oh em gee, hey guys 😏
Do I know what triggered this? No. (I do but whatever).
PLEASE LISTEN TO ME, I AM BEGGING ON HANDS AND KNEES RIGHT NOW, PLEASE.
Peter Pettigrew in no way shape and form is a redeemable character. There isn't a single universe in which I'd find it necessary to redeem him for any reason whatsoever. And I have evidence and proof to back me up, okay, so hold the pitch forks at bay.
In chronological order, in terms of characterization and understanding Peter as a character.
1) We know he was friends with James, at the very least. James wouldn't make him secret keeper for no reason (yes, Sirius suggested it but James still agreed). And on top of that, he was a Marauder. Whether that be specifically because of his friendship with all three boys or James, I can't be sure. But he was their friend...it wouldn't have been a betrayal if that wasn't the case.
2) Peter wasn't as smart as his friends. We get a scene of their time at Hogwarts where Peter can't remember the attributes of a werewolf. THEY RAN AROUND WITH A WEREWOLF EVERY MONTH. So, yeah, Peter was canonically stupid and I'm not even sorry to say it.
3) Peter became a Death Eater. He chose to join Voldemort. He had no real connection to them and he CHOSE to join them. It baffles me that people think that's redeemable.
4) Peter was the Potter's secret keeper and he betrayed them to save his own ass. Whether it be from fear or pride, he did that intentionally. You can't torture the location from someone, Peter made that decision on his own.
5) Peter murdered innocent muggles in order to fake his death. Yeah, he murdered people. And it wasn't even self defense. He killed them with zero hesitation to cover his ass.
6) Because he was a rat for thirteen years, he was affected bodily and mentally. You can't be an animal for that long without some kind of effect. That's why he looked/behaved the way he did in the books and movies.
7) He literally brought Voldemort back. I'm not entirely sure what more needs to be said on this. He brought Voldemort back. That is all. And even Voldemort knew he was only there because he was a cowardly little bitch. He could have abandoned Voldemort but he quite literally nursed him back to 100% and y'all think that's redeemable.
8) He killed Cedric. He cut off his own hand. Y'all are on something else if you think fear is a valid excuse for that.
9) Not relevant but every time I think about how Peter was basically Snape's bitch is so funny.
10) He deserved a worse fate.
Peter was CANONICALLY weak, a coward, an idiot and selfish. He had ZERO qualms with betraying his friends to save his own ass. AGAIN. He betrayed his FRIENDS. I don't know why y'all are always like, 'but young Peter-' NO. I won't hear it (I will but not the point).
"He DiEd FoR hArRy" NO. He died because he's a COWARD. He owed Harry a life debt and his hesitancy in the moment killed him. That is all. Like, bro, if you're gonna be evil, do it through and through. HE WAS THE ONLY REASON HARRY WAS EVERY IN TROUBLE. Not even just once BUT TWICE.
The only "regret" Peter would ever have is things not going to plan.
At the intent of not becoming too repetitive, I'll end this here.
As always, until next time haters.
