Roop's POV
"I want to leave", I said.
"What?"
"I said I want to leave", I added as I looked at the ground, "Sir".
I heard him scoff and say, "First of all, it is not safe for you out there. and secondly, sir? You are calling me your 'Sir' like the rest of the people do? You are not an attendee, Roop, you are-"
"Yeah, what am I? Tell me, your grace, what am I to you??", I asked furiously.
He took a few steps towards me and calmy whispered, "Roop, you are not in the right mind to discuss all that right now-", I cut him off, "You know what, I want to know what we have. I want to know what I mean to you? And why did you come save me today? Tell me, how will you introduce me to others? Hey, guys! Look, this is the new flavor of the season. You have no idea how I use her-"
"ROOP?!!", his voice echoed through the chamber shutting me up. His eyes bore into mine angrily and he took a few steps towards me until I had no option but to sit on the couch. I leaned on the back rest of the couch as he hovered over me and placed himself in between my legs. He looked at me for a few seconds and growled, "Do not ever talk about yourself like that", he was breathing loudly as if he was releasing his anger like that.
"Then, tell me. How will you intro-"
"I don't have to introduce you to anyone, baby. The whole palace knows about you"
"What do they know me as?"
"The love of my life"
"How can you be in love with me after seeing who I really am and how FUCKED UP my life is? We don't even know each other well yet. How can you-"
"Well, then how beautiful is this love then? I know how FUCKED UP your life is and still I chose to be with you. I don't know much about you but still I would die for you. Why don't you just give me a chance, Roop? Why do you keep pushing me away?", I had nothing to say. My whole mind was blank as I looked at him. The tip of his ears were red just like his eyes. I looked down and played with the end of my saree. I saw him kneel in front of me but I didn't look up at him. "You have no idea what you mean to me, Roop. You are the first woman who ever made feel how love feels like. I am used to getting endless attention from other women. But I die to just see you smile because of me. You make me feel like a hero, Roop. And all you need to do is just smile", he held my hand in his, "You bring out the best in me. I like who I am when I'm around you. I see my future with you. Just give it a thought from my perspective. You'll know what I'm talking about. I know that you are in no position to listen to all this. Rest here for tonight. If you want, I will sleep somewhere else. But just don't leave the chamber", he said as he got up.
"Now, have something", he said and picked up the plate. He sat down beside me on the couch and started feeding me. One after the other, all my memories with him came rushing through my mind as I ate the food he fed me. My eyes turned wet and I gently pushed the plate aside to hug him. "Where do I go now? I have no body left except you. My whole family is gone. They left me all alone in this world", I let out my worries. He kept whispering that I would never be alone until he was with me.
After I was full, he asked the attendees to clear out the chamber and prepare for me as he decided to stay at the library as he had some work there. He asked me to just call his name out if I needed something and he would be right there and left. I laid on the bed and but couldn't fall asleep. My mind was still roaming around about everything that had happened. But after an hour or so, slowly from exhaustion, my mind shut down soon and I fell asleep. But in the middle of the night, I had a nightmare and woke up with cold sweat on my forehead and shivering hands. I couldn't forget the sight of Dadi's corpse in the pool of blood from afternoon and started crying. I felt scared and lonely, so I got out of the bed and decided to find this library he was in. I walked towards the direction he went in and walked into a passage with fancy paintings and decorative ornaments everywhere. The deeper I went, I observed how huge the chamber actually was. I reached an opening and then a huge library with books on shelves which were so tall that there were ladders kept beside them.
There were tables on which maps and a few books were spread out. There was another table with weird looking instruments that I had no idea about. I looked around until my eyes landed on him sleeping on the floor near with just a carpet below him in front of the couch. I walked towards him and stood in front of him for a few seconds debating what to do with myself. His right arm was under his head and the left one was spread beside him. For just a moment, I decided to stop thinking everything else and seek some comfort. I sat down beside him on the floor and laid down as I placed my head on his bicep. It felt weird in the beginning and I tried to not add too much weight on his bicep. But slowly, my eyes closed and I fell asleep as I felt him wrap himself around me from behind.
After a week....
"If Pita ji gets to know about this, Dheer, you are dead meat! What were you thinking?"
"I know, Hari. That is why we need your help. Please don't say no. Look at her. What is lacking in her. Isn't she perfect for me? Please Hari, just somehow convince Ma for me. Please"
"Don't you dare do that face, Dheer. I will break your nose. And it is not about what is lacking in her physical self. It's about her mental strength and thinking which has to be like us for our parents and above everything else, her blood. She is not a royal blooded person and they will never accept her for it, you know that very well"
"Okay, so help me change that. When you decided to marry your husband, you made that sad face and they said yes. Do that again, Hari"
"I didn't make any face, idiot. I showed them how much he meant to me and how we would be right for each other"
"So should I do the same thing now? But how?"
It was very quiet for a second but she continued, "Teach her the stuff we do. Start with sword fighting or horse riding or just basic etiquette of a royal woman. I can arrange someone for that. For now, it will be better for her to stay away from here for your own good. Then, we'll find a good time and tell everyone"
She looked at me one more time but this time with a small smile and walked away holding her small baby bump. I heard a sigh of relief and turned to look at him as he sat on the bed and laid down. I walked to the bed and sat beside him and said, "How will you teach me sword fighting without anyone knowing about it?"
"Leave that to me. Now," he sat up excitedly, "are you ready to meet Bhabhi?", my eyes widened as I soon as I heard his words. "Today?", I asked hesitantly. "Yes?", he said. "Don't worry, darling. I'll be right there beside you" ,he winked. It had been a week here and I had spent most of it either hiding or crying while he was away. In the time he was around I would pretend to be doing something to pass time. I hadn't left the chamber for a week and had seen no one else except him and the attendees who helped me that day.
"Come let's go", he said and stood up. He held out his hand for me but I looked at him worried, "How will I walk out of this chamber? What if someone sees me?", he said, "Just put your head down and don't talk to anyone. I'll manage the rest". Thankfully, the morning prayers were going on and many people weren't around. I put my head down and followed him like a puppy until we reached the stable. He brought out his brown horse which had silkier hair than mine and helped me jump on it. Once we reached another palace, huger and grander than the one I spent the week in, indicating that it was the main palace, I jumped down and admired it's beauty until he tied the horse in the stable.
"This will be your home for a few months, Roop", he said as we both walked towards the palace.
