Chapter 28~Mandy's Despair~

Recess time, Kendra sat down enjoying the cool afternoon breeze blowing across the school lawn. Other students where seated there too.

Mandy came looking for Kendra. She stood with her hands on her hips, panting.
"Hey, I've been looking for you all over school."

Kendra chuckled.
"That's why you ran all the way here?"

Mandy smiled as she took her seat on the grass."You say it like it's a bad thing. Of course I should run down to my friend."

They both laughed at Mandy's words.
Mandy leaned on Kendra without saying a word.Kendra sensed she was bothered about something.
"You good?"

Mandy nodded." Of course. I'm fine.

Kendra poked at her face. "Better tell me what's on your mind. I might poke your eyes next."

Then, Mandy's defense came crashing down. "I'm tired Kendra, real tired. Ya' know, my bro's getting into college next season and the whole family is saving up for his tuition. Now, I have to get another part time job. Life be so hard Kendra, I have to struggle so hard for anything i want."

Kendra watched as tears flowed down Mandy's cheeks. She never could have imagined that Mandy, her friend was going through so much. She pulled her close into her embrace and comforted her.
"It's okay Mandy, don't cry. You're gonna be alright."

Kendra thought about something to lighten the atmosphere. Then she remembered the good news from Jay.
"So, I've got good news for you."

Mandy sniffed and wiped off her tears. "What?"

"So, I talked to Jay about you and Tristan. Surprisingly, he agreed to help."

Mandy's eyes lit up.
"Really, what did he say?"

Kendra smiled."I was getting to that."
She chuckled. "He talked to Tristan to let you join him do a volunteer job at an orphanage. Good news is, Tristan agreed! Yay"!! Kendra screamed excitedly.

Mandy forced a smile.

Kendra noticed she was not as excited as she expected her to be. "You don't look too happy Mandy. I thought this was what you wanted, to be closer to Tristan."

"Hell, yeah Kendra. I am happy. But it's a volunteer... I need the extra cash Kendra. Remember, my brother's tuition."

After school closed, the gang gathered at the parking lot.

Bella questioned.
"Well, where is Jay?"

Tristan answered in a sing song. "Detention."

Dennis continued.
"Guess what, it's just him and Kendra on detention."

Tristan tugged at Dennis' ear. He knew Bella would be furious to find out Jay was together with Kendra.

Bella pressed further. "Which teacher was dumb enough to place Jay on detention anyway?"

Dennis swallowed hard and whispered.
"Mrs Lewin."

Shit!

Bella felt a thud in her heart. She knew Mrs Lewin was a hard nut to crack. She was really mad about Jay spending the rest of the day with Kendra on detention.
