- Are you ready? - Doctor Mason asked Nathan the next morning. It was his task to administer "Ariel" to the temporarily demoted secretary of the Tiger.
He froze upon seeing the syringe in the scientist's hand. Although he understood what was about to happen soon, an overwhelming fear gripped him nonetheless, panic reflecting in his eyes. Seeking support, Nathan instinctively glanced at the only person who had always been by his side since the Tiger shot his subordinate who had betrayed him.
Noris approached and sat on the edge of the bed next to the young man, taking his hand. Dr. Mason raised an eyebrow slightly. He had never seen Noris caring so much about anyone.
- You know this is inevitable, - the bodyguard said softly.
A shiver ran through Nathan's body, and he barely nodded.
- You can turn and lean on Noris' shoulder if you're scared. I'll administer the injection into your neck, - explained Dr. Mason.
Nathan complied, burying himself into the strong shoulder, turning away from the scientist.
Noris signaled to Dr. Mason to administer the medication, soothingly stroking the young man's back while Dr. Mason used the injection.
- Soon you'll feel warmth spreading down your throat. Drink plenty of water. In about half an hour, you'll lose the ability to speak, but you'll be able to make some sounds, - Dr. Mason explained.
Nathan remained still, clinging tightly to Noris until the scientist left the cabin.
- Do you feel the warmth in your throat? - the bodyguard asked.
Seeing a hesitant nod, he stepped back and brought water. Nathan's heart raced when he realized that in about thirty minutes, he would lose the ability to say anything.
Noris brought a notepad and pen.
- If you need anything or want something, write it down.
Nathan said nothing, simply slumping exhaustedly onto the bed. The bodyguard's eyes never left him even for a moment. Soon Nathan felt a strange sensation in his throat. He tried to make a sound.
- Uh..., - was all he could manage.
Noris tensed.
- Uh-uh!!! - Nathan panicked, realizing he couldn't speak anymore. Fear engulfed him.
- Be patient, endure these two years, and you'll be able to speak again, - Noris encouraged him.
The young man just sat and cried for a while until he was too exhausted. Then the man gently laid him down on the bed.
- If you need anything while I'm not in the room, send a message, - Noris said, handing him a mobile phone connected to satellite communication.
Nathan grabbed the notepad and pen frantically.
[Where are you going?]
- I need to take care of the boss's orders. Rest for a bit.
Nathan's lips quivered, and he continued writing.
[Can you stay with me a little longer?]
- Hm, - Norris agreed, realizing the secretary was scared and unstable in his current state.
He settled next to Nathan, who lay with swollen and tear-filled eyes. Because of stress he quickly fell asleep, and Noris covered him with a blanket. Then he left to attend to some duties he still had despite being on leave.
Ten days passed by.
Nathan's condition improved noticeably, and he started walking again, thanks in part to the medicine developed by the scientific group of scholars on the ship. This significantly accelerated the healing process of his wounds.
