Journal Entry #38: New Game!
Date: 2/18
Time: 11:36 am
"Hey Journal, it's me, Tim. I finally got a chance to play the game, since I don't have any shifts on the weekends. I turned my PlayStation Vita on and put the game in, but for some reason, it started to glitch a little. I checked to see if there need to be any updates, and turns out it did. Guess my console was telling me to quit neglecting it, huh? Bad joke, sorry. Anyways, once I begin playing, it turns out that the game was called 'Undertale' and it looks like one of those RPG games too. It began with a cutscene about how the human and monster races fell into war and the humans won it. I started to get interested in the game, but when it got to a part about a child looking at what believed was a gigantic hole, it started to black out a bit and went to "Select Your Name" kind of scene. Is that normal or is it because it's a used copy? While I was about to type my name, there was already one in it called 'DYL4N.' You think that they might be the original owner or just a name that's chosen for the protagonist? Either way, for some reason, this name seems... familiar? I can't put my finger on it, but I think I might've known someone with that name while I was still a member of that cult I mentioned a few days ago. Maybe it's the same person? Who knows, but right now, I'll just focus on putting my name instead. Once I did, my name got closer and started shaking a bit, making the screen fade to white and revealed what appears to be the same child from the cutscenes earlier. I guess this small child is my character, huh? While moving around, I bumped into a talking flower introducing itself as 'Flowey.' He started introducing me to what the game was about and what the controls were, like a tutorial or something like that. Once he was finished, he tried to give me some "friendliness pellets," but once it hit me, the screen turned pitch black and reappear with a goat lady? This game got weirder by the second I play. She seemed kind though! Her name was Toriel and she took my avatar to go inside her home, after going through some puzzles, of course. However, in one of the puzzles were a Dummy. I guess this is the part where you learned how to fight,... or so I thought. Once I attacked it with one strike, it wither away into dust, but then a text box appeared saying:
[Was that truly the best option?]
For some reason, I got an eerie chill that went up from my spine, but I shook it off, thinking nothing of it. After all, it's just a game. What harm is there to be? The text box fades away and the screen reappeared into Toriel's home. However, I had a strange feeling that I skipped a few steps, but again, I shook off the feeling. While going through the house, I noticed how nice it actually looked, kinda pleasing to the eyes even. Especially the details, like wow! The music was even calming too. However, I noticed a stairway and went down in it, seeing Toriel standing in a purple room. She tried to get me inside my avatar's bedroom multiple times, but I refused. Due to this, she put me up into battle against her to prove my strength. It went on for a while, trying to 'mercy' my way out, but since that didn't work, I decided to just use my attacks. Once I hit my final blow, she was in a state of shock, but looked at the screen with forgiveness in her eyes and smile and suddenly passed away into dust, just like the Dummy from earlier. Suddenly, another text box appeared, but there was slowly a horrific scream that sounded like a woman crying for mercy as if she was trapped into a corner of some sort. Feeling the chill again, the text box stated a different message. This time, it said:
[Why did you stop showing her mercy?]
[What did she do to deserve her fate?]
[...]
[Remember, always choose wisely or your actions will be receiving their own fate.]
After that, the scream fade away, along with the text. Once it did, there was nothing but silence, until a glimpse of a horrific Toriel, along with a scream of "help me," appeared on the scream for a few seconds and disappeared as if nothing happened. The screen then fades back into that purple room, but I decided to end it there for a while. Was this some sort of horror RPG type of sh*t or was this the original owners' hacking skills that transformed a peaceful game into something like this?! Either way, I'm going to have to take a break for a while. Once I'm out of work in the next couple of days, I'll maybe go back to it. For now, I'm gonna go watch some TV. I'll let you know if anything else happens after that whole... experience."
