"ALICE!! COME OUT HERE YOU USELESS BITCH! I WILL CUT YOUR FUCKING HEAD OFF" As you can see my mother is having one of her fits, she gets this way when she has to much to drink.
Right now I'm sitting on my bed listening to her slamming her fists against my door. She'll pass out soon... I hope.
She's always been like this for as long as I can remember.
She's never mean when she's sober.. which isn't very often.
After awhile the screaming and banging stops. I get up from my bed and peak out the door. Nothing. I walk into the living room and see her pasted out on the couch. I sigh.. why can't she be like other moms, normal not a drunk.
I soon noticed the clock. 3:45 p.m. Shit.
I ran out the door and down the street to the small diner I worked at night. My mother receives disability after a work accident a long time ago. That money goes towards making sure the bills and my mom's hobby. The diner money goes for just the little things.
When I got there Shelly, one of the morning waitresses was making her way out. She was a single mom of two boys they were twins. Daniel and David.
"Hi Shelly, how'd today go?" I asked. She smiled and replied, "Not to bad, good luck tonight. I'm late picking up the twins from daycare." She dashed off to her car and I yelled to her, "Give them kisses for me!"
"I will!" her voice was faint but I could see her standing by her car and waving to me with a smile.
I walked to the back of diner, grabbed my black apron and tied it around my waist. Soon like clock work the regulars started to fill in.
The diner shift went on like normal all the way up until closing time. 10 o'clock.
I was coming out of the kitchen when I saw a man in a nice suit and top hat. He was sitting in a booth, his hand perfectly placed in front of him on the table.
When I walked up to him to tell him that we would be closing in a few minutes, he spoke before me."Do you have earl gray tea?" He asked in a polite manner. "Yes. But you should know were closing in 2 minutes." I told him truthfully.
"Oh please, love? Just one cup. I swear I'll only be a few minutes." He pleaded.
"Sure." I wandered back behind the counter and got him a hot pot of water, a mug and the tea. I wandered back over to him and placed everything in front of him. "Enjoy." I whispered. As I turned around to leave I heard him ask, "Won't you join me?"
I turned around and asked, "Why?"
He shrugged his shoulders and said, "Well I'm new to town, I would like to make at least one friend."
I surprised myself by sitting down. He gave me a smile and told me, "I'm Maddox Hatley." He reached his hand out to shake mine.
"I'm Alice Wonderling." I shook his hand and smiled
Maddox look to be in twenties, he had dark brown hair and his eyes were to different colors; his left was green and his right was brown.
I could tell that he noticed me looking at his eyes longer that I should have.
"It's.." He started
"Heterochromia Iridum." I said cutting him off. He seemed impressed with my knowledge of the condition. "Yes. Very impressive Ms. Wonderling."
"Thank you." I said flatly.
Maddox pulled a pocket watch out of his jacket he looked at the time, closed it shut, put it back in his coat, stood up and said, "Thank you so very much for your good company and tea." He tipped his hat to me and then walked out of the diner.
As I sat there in pure shock I tried to figure out what had just happened.
Eventually I stood up and cleaned up the tea, which he hadn't even drank, he didn't even make a cup. When I went back to table to wipe it off there was a single business card that hadn't been there before and all it said was,
