~~~~~~~~~~For as long as I could remember, I've always hated bugs. Something about their little bug bodies and bug brains is just-- well--vile. Especially ladybugs. God, those creatures are disgusting.
So you can only imagine my delight and enthusiasm when one is crawling along my hand as if the world is at peace. I think I even caught a glimpse of it taunting me with an angered stomp--but that might just have been me panicking.
Panicking?
Ok, ok. Dont panic Lace.
I've been over this several times, right?
Get it together Lace. Its just a damn bug.
But before I can have that self restraint, im already yelling Rina's name, begging her to get this pathetic-excuse-of-a-living-thing off of me. Next thing I know, she runs over here and has said ladybug on her finger.
"You called, Lace?" She laughs.
"Its not funny," I grit my teeth. "You're holding the most icky creature to ever exist on this planet."
"Oh, its not the worst." Rina smiles at the monstrous bug as it attentively scampers across her hand.
"Yeah, maybe on mars."
"Enough of that. Mom said to get ready for school, Lace. Why on earth are you out at six in the morning, anyway?"
"Pfft. None of your concern." I scoff.
"Whatever. Just hurry up and get ready for school."
After i reluctantly get dressed (which took roughly half an hour that consisted of mass procrastination), i tie my hair into my normal ponytail. My eyes wander to the blue streaks in my hair; and im once again reminded of when i tried dying my dark hair an electric blue, but due to not-so-unfortunate circumstances, only got a few streaks in. But maybe that was for the best.
I quickly brush my teeth and hurry downstairs, saying my goodbyes to my parents as me and Rina hurry to the bus. I shut the open mailbox on my way--i wonder why my parents haven't replaced it yet--the 'H' in 'Hensler' fell off and left a dull gray spot where it once was. I hope that mailman is proud of himself.
I finally make it to school. Definitely not the best place to be, but put up with it, as any sixteen-year-old girl at Leerlands highschool would do.
Walking to my first class, i wave to a few of my friends as I pass by them, then stop to go to the bathroom to wash my hands for a bit. I dont care if that ladybug is gone, it's still repulsing knowing that its trace remains on my hand.
"Lace! Did you hear?!" A familiar voice echos. I turn to see its Cara, a close friend of mine who never seems to miss the tiniest bits and details of drama. I dont mind it, but i don't necessarily like it either.
"Hear what?" I raise an eyebrow at her.
"The Valentines Dance! It's next week!" She squeals.
Oh, right. Valentines.
How could I forget?
Well, i'm not exactly 'excited'.
"I haven't found a date," I confess. I dispense a napkin and dry my hands.
