I sat on the front steps of the motel. The breeze felt cooler than usual. I assumed winter was coming soon. Before, winter wasn't that bad. maybe a few snow days but now..we would have to pray for cold. Cold would slow the walkers down, but also slow us down.

I rubbed my temples. If I ran, I would have to get new supplies. A new gun. New bag. I would be away from the group though. One thing I have been trying to do since I came here. I don't want to be here with them.

I shake my head, attempting to free the thoughts in my brain. I should not even be thinking like that, given the fact that this group has practically saved me countless times.

But then again, they banished me from their group. I was a victim in an accident and I was blamed for it. The thought of the incident made me cringe. Betrayal was the first word to come to mind.

Run away, they don't need you. They have managed to survive without you.

Thinking about anything positive now was pointless. Everything just came out negative. I found my group again, but I also got drunk and was almost raped. I'm not talking to one of my best friends. I found out Carl had slept with Morgan consistently. All negatives.

I sighed and stood up. They really would be better off without me. I brushed off any dirt off of my jeans. I started to walk. I heard that walking helped keep your mind off situations you didn't want to be involved in.

I headed towards the trail behind the motel. in the back was a wooden playground, but you had to walk at least half a mile to it. It had a swing and a slide, but that was pretty much it. It was the only source of fun around here.

I was surrounded by dead nature. decaying plants, leafless trees, no signs of any life besides myself. The wind would cause the leave to dance across the path, but that's about as noisy as it gets.

I needed a plan. I would say I went on a walk to clear my head. They would add on that it's too dangerous. typical parent-like answer. I would reply that I couldn't clear my head if someone was on my ass the whole time. End of conversation.

I would just walk to the play area then back. That would be about five minutes. Besides, I could see the playground from here.

As I continued walking, I could hear leaves crunching. I believed it was only me until I heard a twig snap. I spun around and came face-to-face with a familiar set of eyes.
