Mama, I think I fell in love with a demon. How do I break it to her?
This is real. Pain is real here. I have tested that theory. The underworld isn't a fictional tale. I am in it. And a demon has given a mission here. I want to be free again. I want to run. But everything I try leads me back to these four walls.
I was eating breakfast with Qidros and Kusva because I had no other choice. "When will you stop running from your duties, Evelynn?" Kusva asked and cocked her brow. "I don't have duties to fulfil here. I just want to go back to my world." "What world? The one that betrayed you. No. You can't go back. Because he will come there and destroy your ' beloved world ' looking for you."
Was the 'he' Kusva referring to that ghoul I met? No, I can't be.
I bent my head, hoping the conversation could end. After a short-lived moment of silence, Qidros spoke. It was the first time this morning and his word choice was weird. "Escape. You have 12 hours to try and escape. If you do make it out and reach the mortal realm alive, we will cover for you. If you don't leave here by the time it is up. You will do everything Axdur asks you to do.''
His eyes were beautiful honey orbs staring down at me. "Is that all? To find my way back?" I pushed myself up and turned to a young girl who had tailed me all around the palace. "Lead me to the borders," I said but before I could do anything more, Qidros rose from his seat as well.
"I will go with you. You aren't allowed to leave the palace without a royal presence. So, do you want to change into something practical or do you want to take on this task in your sleeping clothing?" I scoffed, clearly understanding his tone.
" I will meet you in 5 minutes at the front. Elsyia, make sure she doesn't back away from her deal." I turned away but didn't break eye contact.
I'm the bringer of Doom to mortals. And he is the overseer of all of the dead.
Her words rang in my head and it didn't amuse me. If it was true, I don't stand a chance against them. If the ghoul were their brother then I would be foolish even to think I can run from their family.
But I have to try. I can't back down now.
I quickly changed into a black skin-tight overall and packed up my short hair. I put on gloves and my boots before putting the bag on my back.
"You look exquisite, Your Majesty."
My legs were grounded. "What did you call me?" "King Axdur chose you, Your Majesty. His orbs are radiant in you. with that orb, you are the queen-to-be." She lowered her head and her brunette hair fell over her face.
"Can I... perhaps use the orb to leave." "Yes, but he will be able to find it. If he escapes." She stated before adding, "Please do not ask anything else, your majesty. If not, I will be in trouble.."
Her body shook vigorously but my mind was somewhere else.
If he escapes? Was he trapped somewhere that was difficult for someone like him to escape? Or maybe he is in his mundane form rendering him helpless. Then I can leave and reverse it before he can break free.
I nodded to myself and stepped out of my room. I am confident in myself. King Axdur gave me power that I will use well. I sped out of the palace with Elsyia trying to keep up my pace in her stud heels.
By the time we arrived two horses were in front of the building. Qidros was on one and his servant stood by his horse. "You do know how to ride a horse, right?" He raised his head and asked. I walked up the horse and swiftly threw my leg over the horse and got on.
"Impressive, Mortal"
I have a name. "I choose not to use it." He replied to my thought."Do you always hear people's thoughts?" I blurted out as we started moving.
"Only the ones that are loud or related to me. Very good for interrogation." We took a detour leading us to a forest. "And how loud can it get?"
"I heard all your plans. About my brother and escaping." My face flushed red as I lowered my head in embarrassment. "Don't not fret, Mortal. You are rather clever." He complimented. I couldn't help but think how Axdur was. And how he spoke or moved. I wonder what his speciality was.
"I was the director of the board. Solutions come easy to me." I replied to him and he nodded in an impressed way. "That is a great trait you need to be queen."
Ugh! I was getting tired of being called queen all the time.
Qidros' horse stopped and so did mine. I got off the horse and adjusted my bun. "There. That is the border. Cross it and I will protect you from Axdur." He said and settled into a chair his servant brought.
I nodded and walked to the forested area. I placed my hand on the force that covered it and tried to sink my hand. To my surprise, it went through. Excited, I turned to Qidros but he had a smirk on his face.
Before I could question, I sucked in and pulled into the water.
My leg was weighted and I couldn't swim up. Panic filled me. My body refused to cooperate and it kept on drowning. I had no air and the pressure pressed on my chest.
King Axdur's orb.
My eyes dropped to my hand which was glowing blue. Then I looked at the bottom. The same light shone. Yes, follow his light.
I used his light to guide me and almost immediately I was taken back to the surface. But everything was on fire and it grew with every second. My chest heaved as I am asthmatic. You could run into it, and suffer some burns. Or you could wait for his light. Might not come.
My eyes danced around my surroundings and noticed a tree with a rope hanging from the branch. I swiftly jumped onto the rope and climbed up.
At last, I was out of the smoke and up in the skies. I noticed ropes that dropped from all the trees and the only I could think of was to swing through it. It was going to be tough but I can't stay up here. I needed to leave the forest and this was the fastest way.
I leapt onto the rope and swung my body so I could catch the next. It was working so I continued for a solid 3 minutes before the unimaginable happened.
It disappeared. All the trees vanished into thin air and I felt my body drop to the ground with a thud. I was immobile but I could see a shadow lurking. "Axdur?" I mumbled like a question secretly hoping it was him so he could ease the pain rushing up my body. I felt ablaze and every muscle ached.
"My queen" a man entered my vision. He stood tall, at least 6'11ft. His dark hair fell over his eyes and the amor hugged his massive muscles. "Axdur," I called out again. He wasn't Axdur. Axdur was a monster. He was a ghoul. Now all I see is a highly attractive man who changes my view on everything.
He inched closer to me and looped his hands around me, lifting me from the ground effortlessly. He radiated a sense of safety, warmth and dominance. So strong I forgot my mission. Not to fall in the hands of the one carrying me.
With no doubt, I have failed. And a long journey awaits me.
