I never would have thought this was where my life would have ended up. In an unfamiliar place, several feet below the ground, full of people that I recognized, but couldn't remember. I hated it there.

I hated it more than anything. I wish we never got stuck there. If we had never been there, maybe they would all still be alive.

I wish I could see his face again. I wish I could see all their faces again.

They didn't deserve this.

We didn't deserve this.

The room was dimly lit with only a single bulb of light hanging from the ceiling. Jasper laid on top of the loose fabric of the stiff bed, shivering as he curled into himself. Despite the cold, it was rather nice. Well, at least it was.

Sirens blared, causing him to bolt to life with an uneven breath. It was loud, disruptive, and rather unnerving to listen to. The room around him echoed, making it sound worse than it already was. On impulse, he covered his ears, shifting his weight to the edge of the bed to stand.

Soon, the wails of the siren diminished, being replaced with a rather chipper voice. "Goooooood morning cadets! I hope you slept well! Please make your way to the Cafeteria for this morning's daily meetup! And no dilly dallying!" With a small click, the voice went away just as quickly as it arrived.

Cafeteria? He thought as his head tilted to the side in confusion. His shoulders tense as he stepped forward, glancing around at his surroundings. This wasn't his apartment. Far from it, in fact.

It was small, with only one line of light in the whole room. A single dangling bulb. It wasn't very big, or even very bright, but it lit up the room enough. The bed, now behind him, had thin white sheets on it and a single, thin, white blanket. It was pressed firmly against the wall. To the side of the bed was an old, large dresser pressed up against the wall, barely holding itself together as it stood in place.

Nervously, he opened the dresser. It was full of military uniforms with only one casual outfit; a white button up, lime green tie, dark purple jeans, a brown belt with a silver latch, and brown boots. I should probably change. With no other choice, he took the only casual clothes inside before shutting it.
