AFTER COMING BACK HOME, rory made a beeline for the kitchen, her stomach grumbling in response of each step she took.

katherine was already present there and upon seeing the woman, rory automatically smiled. quickly washing her hands in the kitchen sink, she took a seat on one of the stools in the pantry as the walter boys swarmed the house.

"how was your first day guys?" katherine asked while preparing dinner. riven took a seat beside rory, slinging his arm over her shoulder which she immediately brushed off with a frown.

"it was great katherine. colorado seems okay." riven replied, watching his sister who was hangry to say the least. rory simply nodded, eyes darting around the pantry for food.

katherine seemed to notice her predicament, throwing a bag of 'goldfish' crackers at her. her face lit up and a coat of pink dust fell on her cheeks as she offered katherine a shy smile.

"thank you katherine, i had a good day too, colorado is okay." rory mumbled, opening the bag.

"where's jackie? didn't she come with you guys?" katherine suddenly perked up, looking around the kitchen in search of their sister.

as if on cue, danny seemed to walk in at that exact moment and shook his head in response.

"apparently her friends are gonna drop her. cole said that they are good people so i'm choosing to trust him on that." riven shrugged, trying to act nonchalant when in reality he was a bit stressed at the idea of her sister alone with strangers.

"yeah it's just grace and skylar, she's in good hands don't worry." danny insisted, grabbing a banana from the fruit basket.

"hey riven, you wanna come watch the football match with us?" he called out, turning towards the older boy.

"yeah sure man. i'll be right there." riven replied, eagerly. danny smiled, giving him a thumbs up and walking off towards their sitting space.

"go on." katherine encouraged, ushering the boy to follow. riven didn't need another push. jumping off his stool, he smiled at katherine before heading towards the room.

"i can't believe that my own brother likes watching american football" rory gagged, at which katherine chuckled.

"not a fan?" she asked the girl who immediately shook her head in distaste.

"no, thank you. i'd much rather watch the english football leagues where they play actual football instead of tackling one another to the ground like animals." she laughed, popping another cracker into her mouth.

"don't let cole hear you say that." katherine winced, laughing.

rory giggled back in response before noticing that katherine was preparing dinner all alone.

"hey, let me help you." she offered, standing up from her stool and taking off her maroon leather jacket. katherine resisted, telling the girl that she didn't need any help but upon her persistence, she gave in- hesitantly asking her to set the table.

jackie had soon returned from school, shooting rory a glare which she didn't miss. rory shrugged in response, telling her how they had tried to reach her. jackie sighed, waving it off and making small talk with katherine before leaving to freshen up.
