The next morning Nyx and Danae stepped out of the hunting lodge hand in hand.

Nyx wore his signature Night Court black. With his dark hair and dark wings he looked very much the Heir of Night. Unlike him, Danae looked like the first day of Spring. Her soft pink dress like the bud of a flower and the waves of her golden locks shining in the sunlight.

Nyx could not look away from the swells of her breasts, and her scent drove him to insanity. Keeping the urge of the mating bond under control was a difficulty, even more so with the knowledge that she was carrying his child.

Danae smiled at him, knowing that she wasn't much better. She barely left his side, and she rode him savagely in the bath this morning until the wooden floor was drenched.

Nyx brought her hand to his mouth and kissed her knuckles gently as they exited the wards.

The whistling sound of arrows took him by surprise. Three thunked into his wings and he roared. Danae herself had fallen forward. An arrow protruding from her shoulder blade.

Nyx saw red.

He surged forward, forcing his power up his spine-

He fell helplessly.

Faebane.

Shit.

The snap of a trap sounded and the two of them were lifted, they suspended high above the forest floor, in a net. Inside that net Nyx and Danae were caught like two unsuspecting rabbits.

Nyx fought off the dizziness as the net swayed back and forth, he missed the look of utter horror that passed over Danae's face.

A rustle nearby alerted them to another presence. Neither of them had ever seen her in person before, but still they recognized Amarantha as she calmly walked towards the hanging net.

Nyx leaned forward, the soft touch of his fingers around Danae's wrist as he whispered something only she could hear.

Amarantha wore all red to match her hair and lips. She cocked her head to the side as she gazed up, towards the game she'd caught unaware in her cleverly laid trap.

"Let us begin," Amarantha said calmly as she glanced at the children of her enemies, "bring them down. And we'll give them a merry welcome into our Court."

The Attors obliged her.
