In the dimly lit corridors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Draco Malfoy found himself wandering aimlessly. His footsteps echoed softly against the stone walls as he tried to shake off the weight of his thoughts. It was late, far past curfew, but Draco couldn't bring himself to return to his dormitory just yet.
As he turned a corner, he nearly collided with Severus Snape, the intimidating Potions Master, who was making his rounds.
"Watch where you're going, Malfoy," Snape sneered, his black eyes narrowing in disdain.
"Apologies, Professor," Draco muttered, lowering his gaze to the floor.
Snape's gaze lingered on Draco for a moment longer before he continued down the corridor, disappearing around the corner without another word.
Draco let out a sigh of relief and continued on his way, his mind swirling with thoughts of his tumultuous relationship with his father and the expectations placed upon him as a member of the Malfoy family.
Lost in his thoughts, Draco failed to notice the figure lurking in the shadows until it was too late. Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, stepped out from behind a suit of armor, his emerald eyes locking onto Draco's with a mixture of curiosity and defiance.
"What are you doing out here, Malfoy?" Harry asked, his voice tinged with suspicion.
Draco stiffened at the sight of his longtime rival, his usual mask of arrogance slipping for a brief moment. "None of your business, Potter," he retorted, his tone defensive.
Harry raised an eyebrow, his arms crossing over his chest as he regarded Draco with a skeptical gaze. "You're up to something, aren't you? Sneaking around after hours like this."
Draco bristled at the accusation, his pride wounded by Harry's insinuation. "I told you, it's none of your concern," he snapped, his silver eyes flashing with irritation.
Before Harry could respond, the sound of approaching footsteps echoed down the corridor. Draco tensed, expecting to see Snape or another member of the Hogwarts faculty, but instead, a voice called out from the darkness.
"Draco? Is that you?"
Draco's heart skipped a beat as he recognized the voice. Severus Snape's voice. But why was he here, and why was he calling out to Draco of all people?
"Professor Snape?" Draco replied, his voice tinged with uncertainty.
The Potions Master emerged from the shadows, his black robes billowing around him as he approached Draco with a concerned expression.
"What are you doing out here, Draco? It's past curfew," Snape said, his voice low and measured.
Draco hesitated, unsure of how to respond. Snape had never shown him any kindness or concern before. Why was he suddenly taking an interest in Draco's well-being?
"I-I was just...taking a walk, Professor," Draco stammered, his eyes darting nervously between Snape and Harry.
Snape regarded him for a moment, his dark eyes searching Draco's face for any sign of deception. Finally, he nodded, albeit reluctantly.
"Very well. But be mindful of the rules, Draco. We wouldn't want any...unfortunate incidents to occur," Snape said, his tone laden with a warning.
Draco nodded, relief flooding through him at Snape's dismissal. Without another word, Snape turned and disappeared back into the shadows, leaving Draco and Harry alone once more.
As Snape walked away, he couldn't help but notice Harry still standing there, a defiant expression on his face.
"Potter, what are you doing out past curfew?" Snape demanded, his voice sharp with authority.
Harry hesitated, his mind racing as he searched for an excuse. But before he could respond, Snape's expression softened slightly, a calculating gleam in his eyes.
"Never mind," Snape said, his tone betraying a hint of satisfaction. "Come with me, Potter. It seems you and I have some matters to discuss."
Harry's heart sank as Snape led him away, a sinking feeling settling in the pit of his stomach. He had a feeling this was going to be a long night.
