When I walked out the door of the library, I was confused. What I had been looking for all these years had now presented itself. But who had sent the envelope? Why now? With thousands of questions storming through my mind, my only thought was to go home as soon as possible, sit down at the computer and do some research. I had to find the community called the Time Tailors.

I took quick steps forward, opened my car door and threw my bag on the side seat. The thick fog that surrounded us, the gray clouds hanging in the air, felt like they were being sucked in. My breathing felt labored, so I pulled out my phone to call my friend. Maybe if I met him, he could help me calm down. Gripping the steering wheel with my left hand, I reached my right hand into my bag on the side seat to pull out the phone. But as I fumbled in my bag, the phone fell under the seat. I bent down to pick it up and then pressed the button to call my friend. Just then I saw a silhouette looming in the fog. My heart seemed to stop. I hit the brakes, but it was too late. I had hit the man.

My friend's voice echoed anxiously from the other end of the phone.

"Melody! Melody! Can you hear me?"

I jumped out of the car and ran to the man I had hit.

"Are you okay? Can you hear me?" I asked frantically.

"I'm fine, don't worry," the man said, standing up as if nothing had happened, but he was struggling to hide the slight signs of pain on his face.

I took him by the arm and helped him up. Pulling myself together, I said, "I'm really sorry. I couldn't see you because of the fog, we have to go to the hospital now!"

But the man politely rejected my offer and said, "I have somewhere to be. Forget this incident and move on. Don't worry about me," he said and quickly walked away from me. As my eyes followed the mysterious figure disappearing into the mists, the storms inside me grew stronger and stronger.

I ran back to my car. My friend was still on the phone.

"Daisy! I'm fine! But I just hit a man," I whispered, my voice shaking.

Daisy said in a concerned tone, "I'm on my way Melody! Stay where you are! I'm coming!"

A few minutes later, the police siren and the sound of an ambulance began to grow louder in the background. I was sitting in the car with the door open, holding my head in both hands with mixed emotions. Suddenly, I was startled by Daisy's voice.

"Melody!" she called, and my eyes quickly turned to her. As soon as I got out of the car, Daisy hugged my neck.

"Oh, my God, you're okay! I was so worried about you!" I didn't say anything, I just hugged Daisy tightly.

Friends from the department came up to us and said, "Get well soon, Detective Thornheart! We're glad it's nothing serious," they consoled us.

After Daisy took my bag from the car, she asked one of her friends in the organization to take my car home. She took my arm and led me to her car. She didn't ask me anything the whole way. When I stepped inside, I was still feeling the shock of what had happened. I hurried into the living room and collapsed on the sofa, my body trembling. I was deeply shaken by the severity and unexpectedness of the incident. Daisy rushed to the kitchen to get me some water. Holding the glass of water in her hand, Daisy quickly sat down next to me and handed it to me.

"Drink some water, get some rest and then let's talk," he said, his voice full of peace. My eyes were still blurry from the shock of the event, my mind was spinning rapidly. But just having Daisy with me was a relief.

After I drank the water, I started to come to my senses. With my hands still shaking, I told Daisy in detail what had happened. Daisy suggested that we check the traffic cameras because she was a policewoman, but I reminded her that the weather conditions were foggy and that this idea would not work.
