In the ensuing months to come, Alani embarked on the journey of cultivating a new cycle – one that was characterised by love and health. She began planting good seeds in decayed soil, nurturing a new beginning and witnessing the vibrant shoots of a new spring.
The routine of bringing flowers to the grave of her former self ceased, a gesture that mirrored a detachment from her past, that she no longer cared to dwell on. However, she did continue to visit Ezra's grave. Sometimes, she stood barefoot in the grass, letting the earth beneath her feet serve a source of healing. The cage she once felt trapped in was now open, and she understood she could walk away at any time. This newfound realisation granted her a kind of control she had never experienced with Ezra. Alani also learned that forgiveness was now about liberating herself than absolving others. She was no longer haunted by the echoes of her past; instead, she walked the path of self-love and acceptance.
Celebrating six months of sobriety, Alani was not only overcoming her past but also making significant strides in her creative endeavours. She was finalising edits on her second novel, after the first became a beacon for women worldwide who, like her, faced the shackles of possessive relationships, yet made it out and conquered. Through this process, she had been unravelling the layers of herself, forging a path of self-discovery even after being scorched by the flames of the past.
When one gets burned, it is not the fire that defines them but the way in which they rise from the ashes.
