Chapter 16

On the occasion of Pongal event, entire village was gathered infront of the temple with their Pongal pots. Placing three suitable stones on triangle shape with dried firewood inbetween them, Decorated pongal pots were placed above those stove. Every women present there were preparing Pongal with atmost sincerity.

As a revered family of the village, Pongal pot of Paraman family got it's place in first row. Mehala and Rajammal were preparing Pongal with a help of Madhavi and Vaanathi. Since childhood, Vaanathi has always been excited when the foam of Pongal spilled out of pot. So there is no wonder to witness her there.

Madhavi was little bit irritated to stand in the smoke which is the same reason that kept Swetha and Swathi away from that place. But she had no other option as she going to become a daughter in law of Paraman family. Other elder women and elder men were inside the temple preparing for Pooja. Boys gang and Swathi and swetha settled in plastic chairs that placed on the sideways. Everyone except our hero got themselves involved in teasings and playing. Aadhi who projecting himself being busy with his mobile glanced at Vaanathi now and then without other's notice. But the later one was too much into the preparation of Pongal.

Everyone from Paraman family stood up and prayed the lord when the foam spilled out of pot. Mehala followed by Rajammal and Madhavi put rice inside the pot. Then Madhavi get out of the place and sat behind Swetha rubbing her eyes. Later Vaanathi walked out wiping her eyes with her Dhavani as smoke getting intensified not only from their stove but also from others.

Vaanathi was about to hit on the stone of the stove that placed at the last of first row. But Aadhi held her hand before and help her towards chair in the sideways.

Vaanathi asked Aadhi, "Mama kannu eriyuthu. Kerchief kudunga".

(My eyes are burning. Please give me a kerchief)

Aadhi gave her his Kerchief which he wetted just now. She wiped her eyes and face.

"Ammavum chithiyum innum anga than irukangala", Aadhi asked.

(Are mother and Aunt there?)

She replied, "illa mama. Athaiyum chinna athaiyum kovilukulla poitanga. Ammavum, Raji perimmavum irukanga"

(No.. Aunties moved inside the temple just now. My mom and Raji Aunt are there)

Karthik nudged others, "ketukonga da. Athaaiyum chinna athaiyum am.."

(Notice the word 'Aunties' guys)

Other boys said in chorous, "ooohoo"

Vaanathi wiped her face again to cover her blush while Aadhi glared at them.

"Thangatchi.. Un mamanta solli alava moraika sollu. Ayyanar sila nu evanavathu aruvala kuduthura poran", Hari said as if it was a much needed suggestion.

(Sister.. tell you dear to stare a little. Someone would give him a sickle thinking he is a lord Ayyanar)

Maintaining the same glare Aadhi said, "aruva kedachathum mothalla Un vaila thanda vettuven".

(If I get sickle, I will cut you mouth as a first thing)

When others laughed at him, Divya get inside their crowd making her way between Aadhi and Vaanathi by pushing them aside. Then she asked, "enna ellarum enna vittutu enjoy pandreenga"

(How could you enjoying without me?)

"Ama pirichuvittutu enjoy pandrom nu sollu", Aadhi said with fake disappointment making everyone's jaw drop.

(You are literally saying it after separating us)

Divya glared at his brother, "ippo enna thirumba sethuvaikanum ah". She pushed Vaanathi towards Aadhi suddenly. Aadhi held Vaanathi as she stumbled by sudden push.
