Wyatt held their breath as they watched the human walk off. They moved to leave but froze as soon as Jaz turned around again, offering a wave and smile. Wyatt pulled a grin, the distance between them safe enough to flash their teeth without the outlines of their fangs being too prominent. They held a thumbs up and waited till Jaz had turned around to knock on the door. Taking this opportunity, Wyatt vanished.
Returned to the form of the straggly cat, Wyatt shot through the main road weaving with great agility through the treacherous movement of striding feet.
Above Jaz, the gargoyle sat as Wyatt had described. Upon the knocking of the door, the great statue shifted ever so slightly, no one wouldve noticed unless staring directly at it.
A viewing latch slid open across the door, revealing a pair of brown eyes staring suspiciously at the young man in front. The eyes vanished for a moment and from behind the door the stranger's voice sounded.
"Some random guy is out the front. Human-lookn'."
The eyes appeared again, and this time the voice was directed to Jaz.
"Who are you? Why do you knock.""What in the seven rings of hell are you both still doing up there!?" Wyatt spat from the cobblestone road, a loose brick clicking beneath a paw.
"What are you talking about!?" The grey equine snorted through his nose. "Did you find a human bait or not?"
"Yes!" Wyatt stepped back, their head snapping round to look behind them and returned to Sky Castles, their body shaking with each hammering heart beat.
"I signalled to the finch to tell you! Hurry, the bait is at the door now, we have little to no time to prepare dammit!"
The two equines shot each other a glance. The finch had not come to report since it had left to scout Wyatt's progress. Without the time to think of what could have possibly happened, they leapt down from their positions, hard hoofed feet clacking against stone.Z:
Jaz fixed his posture, wanting to make a good first impression, and steeled himself for the awkward conversation that was to come.
"Hey, I'm a musician, I was told you were in need of some entertainment? Uh, a Theo told me something like that at least..."
He explained rather vaguely as he was beginning to truly feel how odd everything was now that the plan was in action.
Salty:
The skin around the pair of eyes creased. The person behind the door vanished again followed by a hushed conversation.
'Theo? Don't know a Theo.'
'What do you mean musician?'
'Had a good look.. Seems to be alone. Perhaps worth questioning- can't waste up on potential information.'
The door opened and a woman stood clutching the handle, the her knuckles pressed white.
"We don't know why you're here, mr musician, but please do come in, we'd like to have a chat."
The woman stepped to the side, allowing space for Jaz to move in through. Behind her the room was revealed to be very much like a usual living room, only that the fireplace had no fire, but several sharp spikes pointing up towards the chimney and a heavy metal grate locked around its entrance.
Two others sat in chairs, books in their hands.. Held weapons behind the cover of pages.Z:
Jaz remained still upon hearing the news, and his ever present nature to doubt himself made him worry that he had somehow picked the wrong building despite the matching description.
"Sorry about that- I'd really rather not intrude if I got my information wrong, I really just wanted to help," He explained carefully.
It would be pointless to waste someone else's time and his own, he thought.
Salty:
The woman glanced back at the other two behind her who sat as still as rocks, eyes baring into the man who stood at the front step.
She looked back at Jaz and blew out deeply through her nose. Without another word, the door pushed to close.
