As I sat down, feeling embarrassed by the coffee incident, Emilia's words rang in my ears. "Welcome to Ogivcy Headquarters, Miss Joshi. I hope you'll contribute your best and won't disappoint our decision," she said. I couldn't help but wonder why she was referring to me by my second name. "No, Ma'am, I'll give my best," I replied.
"Emilia, you can call me Emilia. You don't need to be so formal," she said with a smile, taking me back to our encounter the night before.
During the meeting, everyone pitched their ideas about upcoming brand campaigns. I couldn't help but notice Emilia. She looked different—intimidating, tough, and cold. It felt like I had met a different person last night.
After the meeting, as I was about to leave, Emilia called me back. "Miss Joshi, a word, please," she said, sounding serious. I dreaded this moment, feeling the awkwardness creeping in. I sat down, and she looked at me without saying a word.
"Where did you run away to, Miss Joshi, like Cinderella last night?" she smirked.
"I... um..." I was at a loss for words.
"I am kidding," she said, her tone serious.
Then she continued, "Last night was purely a mistake. I didn't know who you were; otherwise, I wouldn't have acted that way. I never cross professional boundaries with my employees." She emphasized on 'professional boundaries'.
"Let's start fresh. I am expecting a lot from you here."
"Yes, Emilia,"
"You can leave now," she said in a rude tone.
I was seething with anger as I left the office. How could Emilia be so rude? If I had known she was my boss, I would never have kissed her. She had no right to treat me like that.
When I got home, I decided to call Arshi to vent. Arshi and I had been best friends since school, and even though she had moved to Canada to pursue medicine, we still kept in touch.
"Wait, you made out with your boss before your first day at work? That's some crazy shit," Arshi exclaimed when I told her what had happened.
"Yeah, I regret it so much," I replied, feeling embarrassed by my own actions.
Arshi laughed. "Well, at least your life is dramatic. Mine is so boring. Kevin and I live like an old-age couple."
Despite everything, talking to Arshi made me feel better. Later that night, I slept peacefully, not thinking too much about the consequences of my actions.
