Camilla POVAfter idly standing in her room, perusing through the bits and pieces of her life, my gaze landed on her photo hanger, where the uncanny resemblance between us struck me - she, astonishingly flat, and me, considerably busty. A perplexing thought lingered: how had they not noticed this glaring difference?
Seeking refuge in the bathroom, I immersed myself in a long, tranquil bath, a luxury I hadn't indulged in for years. Emerging from the soothing water, I faced the reality of her undergarment collection, discovering a distinct absence of bras catering to my size.
"No bra for me," I muttered.
Undeterred, I settled for my old undies, embracing a casual dress from her wardrobe. Perching on her bed, the unfamiliar surroundings lulled me into a serene slumber, as questions about unnoticed contrasts echoed in my mind.
Awakening to the melodic cadence of my supposed sister Rielle's singing and dancing in what was technically Daisy's room, a pang of guilt brushed past me as I continued navigating this stolen existence. "Lunch is ready, sissy!" her lively voice echoed through the room, prompting me to respond politely, "Oh, show me to the dining, please."
A quizzical expression clouded Rielle's face as she retorted, "You don't know the dining? Are you kidding me? That's your favorite place." Fumbling for an excuse, I released a sigh, pondering my fabricated identity.
"Fine, let's just go, sissy," she conceded, and as we made our way to the dining area, I couldn't help but notice the subtle resemblance between us. Seated at the table were my supposed dad, mum, and a charming stranger, all awaiting my arrival. The spread before me was extravagant, a feast fit for a princess - or in this case, a stolen one.
Without waiting for approval, I settled into my seat and dove into the lavish array of dishes. The unfamiliar cutlery lay untouched; after all, I'm not a real princess, duh!
"Hey, aren't you gonna say hi to your boyfriend?" my mum casually dropped, diverting my attention from the plate to the charming stranger sitting across. A momentary contemplation lingered on how any lady could choose this guy - undeniably charming, but certainly not my cup of tea.
Summoning a half-hearted "Hi," I swiftly returned to my meal, the clinking of cutlery becoming the background score to the awkward ambiance. As they all dug into their dishes, their eyes periodically flickered in my direction, creating an unsettling tableau of surveillance.
"Daisy, we really miss you," my mum injected sentiment into the air, disrupting the quietude.
A reflexive smile danced on my lips, "I miss you guys too, a lot, but I'm happy to be back." My response barely had time to resonate when the self-proclaimed boyfriend interjected, "Can we spend time alone together tomorrow?"
Politely declining, I resumed my focus on the food laid before me. The dining room descended into an uneasy hush, their collective gaze fixated on me, dissecting my every move as if I were some perplexing riddle. Little did they know, beneath this charade, I harbored clandestine plans of escaping next week. Until then, I relish this purloined life, savoring each stolen moment.
"Darling," my dad's voice exuded warmth as he spoke, "we're absolutely thrilled that you're back. Your absence felt like a missing puzzle piece, but your mum and I, unfortunately, have this urgent royal meeting to attend." The gravity of the royal affair seemed to add a layer of importance to their sudden departure.
"But don't you worry," he continued, gesturing towards the charming scent-emitting guy by the name of Damion, "tomorrow, we're throwing a grand party in your honor. Until then, have a blast with Rielle and Damion here."
As my mum joined in, she added, "Aliyah, your partner in crime, can't contain her excitement. She's not just coming - she's bringing the entire gang along for the ride." A tender kiss on my forehead punctuated her words, leaving a mix of affection and anticipation in the air as they made their royal exit.
Seated there, a wave of confusion washed over me. Surrounded by unfamiliar faces and the daunting prospect of forging connections in this new-old life, I couldn't help but feel a bit lost.
"So, what are we gonna do, sissy? Let's have fun for old times," Rielle proposed.
"No, I want to take her on a date," Damion interjected.
"But she's my sister; we're supposed to make out for old times," Rielle countered.
"Out, Damion," I ordered, reveling in the newfound ability to make decisions. It was a sensation I had never experienced before.
Damion, seemingly taken aback, shot me a glance as if wanting to speak, but eventually left without a word.
"Sissy, thanks," Rielle expressed gratitude.
"So, what do you want to do?" I inquired, aiming for a lighthearted atmosphere, not wanting to appear too distant, though this girl seemed a bit on the chilly side.
"Tell me about your first period," I blurted out, attempting to steer the conversation into a more casual direction.
"So, I was in my class having a blast when this urgent need to pee hit me like a ton of bricks. I rushed to the toilet only to discover blood in my pant and va Jay Jay. I screamed, catching everyone's attention. Thought I was on the brink of death, started crying. A teacher saw the whole drama, called Mum, and she swooped in to rescue me. Took me home and gave me the lowdown on it all," she recounted, and I couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"That sounds like the most awkward thing ever. I'm sorry that happened, and I wish I was there for you," I sympathized.
"But sissy, where have you been?" she inquired, curiosity lighting up her expression.
"I'm sorry, but I can't tell anyone," I lied. Just then, three girls around my age burst into the room, accompanied by two younger girls, roughly Rielle's age. Rielle rushed to embrace the two younger girls, and they departed, leaving the three older girls to dash over and envelop me in hugs.
"Biitttttcccch!" one of them yelled, followed by an exuberant "Daissyyyy" from another. The last one chimed in with a casual "Moi bestie." Honestly, I was utterly confused. All I knew was that Aliyah was among them, and distinguishing who was who seemed like an impossible puzzle.
