As I turned around, my heart seemed to leap into my throat, its rapid beating betraying the whirlwind of emotions coursing through me. There she stood, my mother, a figure of authority and power, her presence commanding attention effortlessly. I couldn't help but feel a mixture of apprehension and a strange sort of reverence as I looked up at her."Yes, mother," I murmured, my voice barely above a whisper, as I instinctively bowed slightly. It was a reflexive response, one ingrained in me through years of upbringing and familial dynamics. But as I stood there, I couldn't shake the weight of the moment, the unspoken tension hanging in the air between us.
I could sense the surprise in everyone, the collective intake of breath as everyone observed the scene unfolding before them...
As my mother permitted me to rise, I slowly straightened up, my eyes meeting hers. There was a smile on her lips, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. It was the kind of smile you offer to strangers at an unfamiliar party — polite, but devoid of genuine warmth."Now, now, won't you introduce me to your friends here?" she asked, her tone still pleasant, though there was an underlying edge to it.
"Yes, Mother," I replied, turning to face my companions. "This is Wish, the princess of the Stone Kingdom," I gestured towards the regal figure beside me, who offered a respectful nod in my mother's direction. "And this is Cyria, Rufus, Jade, Calix, and Rex," I continued, introducing each of my friends in turn.
To my surprise, they all bowed to her as well, showing a level of deference that caught me off guard. It was as if they could sense the weight of her presence, the authority she held.
"Ahh, they don't seem to know me either," my mother remarked with a faint chuckle, though there was a hint of disappointment in her voice.
"Yes... guys, this is my mother," I explained, feeling a strange mix of pride and apprehension as I introduced her. "She's the head advisor in the palace of the Muggles," I added, hoping to provide some context for their unfamiliarity with her.
"We just arrived," Rex spoke up, taking charge of the conversation.
My mother's smile widened at their response. "Oh, wonderful. Why don't you all stay at my place then?" she suggested, her eyes lingering on me for a moment longer than necessary, sparking a silent exchange between us.
My mother's offer to host my friends took me by surprise,
"Thank you, Mother," I replied, meeting her gaze briefly before turning to my friends.
As we stepped into the house, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia wash over me. This was the place I had grown up, filled with both cherished memories and painful reminders of the past. But there was no time to dwell on the past now.
"You guys can make yourselves comfortable and choose any of the rooms you like," I offered, gesturing toward the various doors lining the hallway. "There are three more rooms besides mine and mother's, and if you need any help then..."
