2016, Halle Airport, Berlin, Germany
In the dimly lit confines of the Leipzig/Halle airport's parking garage, tension hung heavy as Steve guided the vintage car into a parking spot adjacent to a nondescript white van. The glow of overhead lights cast eerie shadows across the concrete pillars, adding to anticipation and urgency.
Exiting the vehicle, Steve and Bucky met Clint Barton, whose expression was a mix of seriousness and determination. The lines of fatigue etched into Clint's face spoke of long hours and restless nights, yet his eyes sparkled with unwavering resolve. "Cap. Lieutenant," he greeted with a nod.
Understanding the gravity of the situation, Steve returned the nod, his expression a mask of determination and resolve. "You know we wouldn't have called if we had any other choice." Clint's response was straightforward, his demeanour resolute despite the weariness evident in his movements. "Hey man, you're doing me a favour. Besides, I owe a debt."
"Thanks for having our back," Bucky said as he shook Clint's hand, looking over to the young woman.
Wanda spoke up, standing nearby with a sense of determination. " It was time to get off my ass." Her eyes, a striking shade of green, glinted with fierce determination as she surveyed their surroundings, ever watchful for signs of danger.
Steve, standing nearby, listened intently, his gaze focused on the task at hand. The dim light played off the rugged contours of his face, accentuating the haunted look in his eyes. "How about our other recruit?"
Clint gestured towards the grey van, indicating their readiness. "He's rarin' to go. Had to put a little coffee in him, but... he should be good."
Scott approached, his eyes wide with excitement and awe as he extended his hand to Steve. "Captain and Lieutenant America." Steve reciprocated the handshake, his grip firm and reassuring. Despite the situation, a small smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
Scott couldn't contain his enthusiasm, his words spilt out rapidly as he basked in the presence of his heroes. "It's an honour. I'm shaking your hand too long. Wow! This is awesome! Captain and Lieutenant America." His voice crackled with excitement, his eyes shining with unbridled enthusiasm.
Turning to Wanda, Scott's admiration was evident. "I know you, too. You're great!" He then turned back to Steve, overwhelmed with the moment. "Jeez. Ah, look, I want to say, I know you know a lot of super people, so . . . thinks for thanking of me."
Scott offered Sam a friendly nod, his respect for the seasoned warrior evident in his gaze. "Hey, man!" Sam's response was equally warm, his tone light-hearted yet tinged with camaraderie. "What's up, Tic Tac?"
Scott returned the smile, his enthusiasm infectious. "Uh, good to see you. Look, what happened last time when I . . ." Sam interjected with a chuckle, his voice carrying a note of playful banter. "It was a great audition, but it'll . . . it'll never happen again."
Bucky listened intently, eyes scanning the surroundings for any sign of danger. The faint crease of concern on his brow spoke volumes of the weight he carried, the memories of past battles and lost comrades never far from his thoughts.
"They tell you what we're up against?" Bucky's voice was low, his words a quiet rumble that cut through the tension-filled air like a knife. Scott scratched his head, trying to recall the details amidst the whirlwind of emotions and adrenaline. "Something about some . . . psycho-assassins?"
Steve spoke with solemnity, acknowledging the gravity of their situation as he addressed the group. "We're outside the law on this one. So, if you come with us, you're a wanted man." Scott shrugged, unfazed by the prospect of danger. "Yeah, well, what else is new?"
