There are other ways to find readers who read the kind of books you write. I'll talk about a couple other techniques I've used and you'll probably figure out some of your own as you go along in your Wattpad experience.
A good one is that you can click on tags. You know what they are because you are a writer and have used some of them to tag your own book. Tags are words that describe the genre and other specifics of the content of your book. If your book is, for example, a science fiction teen romance set in a futuristic New York City, you may have used the tags 'sciencefiction', 'teen', 'romance', 'future', and 'newyork'.
Readers click on these tags to find books to read. You as a writer can do the same and find books similar to yours, then follow some of their readers. When you click on a tag it takes you to a page showing the 'hot' books tagged for that subject matter that are getting the most reads right now. Click on a book cover and it will take you to a summary pop-up of that title. Click on 'more' to take you to the complete summary page. There you can ascertain if the book is rated Mature or not. If it's what you want, click on 'read' and start using The Key to find potential readers for your book.
Don't underestimate the power of tags. I live in New York City and I love it. I'll check out any book tagged 'newyork', 'newyorkcity, 'new-york', 'manhattan', etc., and I do read a whole lot of them. Readers use tags a lot to find books they want and, similarly, writers can use them to find readers they want.
You will find tags on the summary page of your own book, the ones you picked to describe it. Be sure to check all those out. They are also on the summary pages of all other books. Tags are often featured on your recommendation pages, and if you click on 'browse' at the top of your profile page, you will get a pop-up list of many of the basic tags along with links to featured books.
If you are specifically after readers who comment a lot, and many of them do, go to a book like yours and start reading through the comments below the chapters. You will quickly see the readers who make a lot of comments. Some post multiple comments per chapter, like 12 or 17 or maybe even 20. Some readers love to comment and writers should strive to respond to them. After all, each comment and each response is a click, a connection, and the more connections you make, the more you solidify your and your book's position in the program.
Click on the prolific commenters' name tags/avatars and it will take you to their profile pages. Follow them. They are readers who read what you write and they like to comment. These are the readers you want to come to your page and check out you and your book.

As I said in the previous chapter, Wattpad allows you to follow 1,000 other users. So, what do you do when you have reached that number and can't follow any more readers?
The answer is simple. You unfollow some of those you have been following. To unfollow, go to your profile page to the section underneath your profile information marked 'following' and click on the green icon that shows the number of users you are following. The method will be similar on mobile screens. That takes you to a page showing rows and rows of the users you are now following, along with their names and avatars, four users to a row. It is best to scroll down to the bottom of this list so you can unfollow those first whom you have been following the longest.
Be patient. It can take a few minutes to scroll down 1,000 users. Then, start from the bottom clicking on the buttons that say 'following' to change them to 'unfollow' until you have reached the number of users you want to unfollow. If you unfollow 100 users, that means you can now follow 100 more new readers who may be interested in reading your book. You can do this in any numbers you want, and in any manner you want. It frees up space for you to follow more readers.
Don't worry about unfollowing other users. Most readers don't care if you unfollow them. They may have already unfollowed you in their continual quest to find new writers and books to read. Few users actually keep track or are that concerned about who is following them. They are continually following new writers or readers themselves in order to find new books to read or new readers to read their own books.
Users follow and unfollow for many reasons and there is no rule that you can't follow and unfollow. Just make sure you don't unfollow your friends. When you are unfollowing, make sure to check each user's tag name, the one with the @. Some account names, the ones in the bigger letters, are different from the tag names, and you are most likely to know others by their tag name. This way you don't unfollow people you still want to be following.
Using this method, you can continually follow new prospects for readers who read the kind of book you write.
The only negative aspect of following a lot of users is that you will have a lot of messages and notifications sent to your email address if your Wattpad account is set that way. Some email servers seem to be unable to handle big amounts of emails and it can trip up your email connection with Wattpad. However, Wattpad now sends most of its notifications and messages right to you on Watty, so you don't need them going to your email account too. Make sure your settings for your email account in your Wattpad account settings are set so that only what is necessary is going to your email.

So you are now on your way to completing a terrific book and you also know an effective method to find readers for it.
Be prepared. It can really be a lot of work when you start getting dozens, scores, sometimes hundreds of votes and comments a day. Thanking readers for their votes via posts on their conversation pages and responding to their comments can actually turn into a full-time job.
It's nice to respond to everything (lots more clicks!) but it can get to be too much and an impossibility to keep up with. But you'll quickly know when things have gotten to that point. You'll be wishing you had more time to write!
The last thing a writer wants to do is spend all her time responding to votes and comments. You really do come to a point where you have to pick and choose who to respond to. That's when all-inclusive posts of thanks to readers are in order. You can send them out from your conversations page. Just be sure to check the box under the field that ensures the post goes out to all your followers.
I have never had a problem with anyone using this method and I have, as a result, made many friends all over the world whom I never would have met otherwise, and in addition I have have had several very successful books. If ever there is any kind of problem with another user, the best course of action is to quickly mute them. That will stop it.
Good luck in using The Key to Wattpad success. It's a simplistic method that can be modified to your own personal needs, and it's one that can be extremely enjoyable as you discover the depths and diversity of the Wattpad website.
