London, England 1813
Dearest reader,
The time has come to place our bets for the upcoming social season. Consider the household of the Baron featherington. Three misses foisted upon the marriage market like sorrowful sows by their tasteless, tactless mama.
The Featheringtons were a rather odd bunch amongst the London ton. Three rather less than gracious daughters all being shoved in front of the Queen, the epitome of grace Herself. Penelope, Philippa, and Prudence Featherington may have been lacking in their whits and charm, but surely there must be one Lord out there that could see past the Featherington's many quirks.
As the ladies got ready to embark on another season of the marriage market, their mother was begging the maids to string the corsets tighter than possibly could have. "Is she to breathe, mama?" Penelope finally called out after see her sister nearly yanked off her feet.
She had finally had enough, Lady Fetherington took matters into her hands. She grabbed the loose corset strings and yanked even tighter, bringing Prudence's waist in another half of an inch. "I was able to squeeze my waist into the size of an orange and a half when I was Prudence's age. Your sister shall do the same."
Far better odds might exist in the household of the widowed Viscountess Bridgerton. A shockingly prolific family, noted for its bounty of perfectly handsome sons and perfectly beautiful daughters.
Across the street in the Bridgerton household, the children were all ready and patiently waiting for their sister to descend from the top of the steps. Daphne Bridgerton was making her debut and she had been readying for this moment her entire life. She grew up dreaming about the day she would present herself to the Queen in hopes of receiving her most highest praise, the season's incomparable, a title that originated from our dear beloved Betty Morrigan.
Daphne always looked up to Betty, practically everyone in London seemed to. She just had this aura about her. Betty was not only stunningly beautiful, but she was also smart and inquisitive. Her beauty was timeless, her charm was seamless, but her mind... her mind was limitless.
Betty Morrigan truly had no bounds within society. She questioned everything and nothing all it once. She always looked for answers, but she was very much okay with not finding any and understanding that's just the way it was. Daphne dreamed of growing up to be half as gracious as Betty, and today was the day she would find out if she was even half as successful.
"Is our dear sister still not ready?" Benedict asked once he saw the remainder of his siblings, excluding Anthony, make their way down to the foyer. George ran past, stealing a bow out of Hyacinth's hair. Hyacinth groaned and chased after him.
"She's only been readying herself the entire night." Francesca said.
"You mean her entire life." Eloise countered back.
