She danced on the stage, dressed in a beautiful white dress with a black lacy bow tied around her waist. Her hair was styled in an up-do,braids connecting from both sides into a bun. She's gorgeous.
"Y/N?"
Everyone around her gave her their applause, their appreciation for such a talent.Hundreds of roses landed on the stage, drowning her feet and occupying her arms.
"Y/N...?"
People of all ages idolized her, asking for her autograph,as if she's so special..so unique. But she was...and she knew it.She knew that she was an icon,a legend,a sex symbol and a gift straight from the pearly gates of heaven.
"Hellooo??"
She accepted this life as hers to keep,a life people would sell their soul for,a life you could only get if you destroy the one you already live in,a life people could only dream of.....except...
"Y/N goddamn it! I need this church sparklin' by 11:30! What are ya' doin'?!"
She dreams of that life aswell.
"I'm sorry sister,I was gettin' to it,I promise!" said Y/N,grabbing her broom out of instinct as she started to sweep.
"Sure you were..." The sister scoffed "You know, you made me use the Lord's name in vain like that..that's how close you are from fallin' right of the edge."
"I'm sorry.." Y/N murmured as she slowly swept the same spot.
"I'm sorry" The sister mocked her tone. "Clean this.I'm not gonna tell you again."
The poor girl only nodded in understandment, knowing she's not to talk back to her fellow religious figures.
See,Y/N isn't some famous gal from the city..no,no...she's not like that at all.
Her day didn't start with a breakfast in bed from her private chef, her afternoon wasn't filled with meetings for some big gigs and her night definitely wasn't spent preforming said gigs.Instead, she'd spend her morning waking up at 5,eating a bagel and getting straight to work. She has to dust the benches, scrape gum off the benches, clean the Father's podium along with his confession room, she has to take care of the church donations, sweep the front porch,re-stock the candle drawer, water the plants and if she avoids it for so long she would have to to re-paint the walls on top of all of this.
Pretty different from the little dream I told you about, right? And to think that's just her morning.
Her afternoon consists of being the Father's assistant. She has to lay his bible out on the right page, sell the candles as people come in,follow him around with the incense burner and once he's ready to read the verses she has to sit in the crowd and listen....I mean, there's nothing better to do anyways.
Except when she gets lucky and gets sent to town to pick up the groceries.
Oh how she loves the town...it's so freeing, like a treat from all that hard work.
It's just that it's a little less enjoyable now with the flu going around.People either wear masks or never go out,it's so boring!
It's harder with her chores too,the Father is scared of all the diseases people bring into his space and makes her do double the cleaning, triple if someone coughs in his direction...God forbid a germ lands on him...God forbid!Speak of the devil,as Y/N was dusting, the Father walked in,wiping his nose and sniffing.
"Y/N?!" He yelled, his voice echoing through the church walls.
"Yes,Father??" She looked up from the dust.
"Ah,there you are..I-I need you to run to the town and pick up that medicine everyone's talkin' about..the uh-the.. he sniffed oh how did she call it..the uh- the Liquid Morphine Sulphate!"
"But Father-"
"No buts! My nose has been runnin' like a river all day and I'll be damned if I'll have to sniff and cough durin' my readin'!"
"Yes,Father.." Y/N said with a sad tone, enough to fool the priest.
She couldn't wait to go town! Sure,it'd be boring...but is scraping candle wax better than treating yourself to some candy near the pharmacy...no? I didn't think so either.
The Father, unaware of the syrup's price, gave her more than enough to cover it.Y/N rushed on to her bike and started riding to the town.On her way there she kept thinking of all the things she could spend the change on.
A new shirt? Perhaps a lipstick...,a decent meal?? Jeez,so much to choose from..She parked her bike, more so just jumped off and let it fall, then walked to the counter.
"Hey,darlin'..came back for more medicine..?" Asked the cashier.
"Times are crazy,Ms.Marsha..the war,the flu...I don't know where my head is at..."
"Well did the medicine help? You seem better.." She chuckled.
"Oh I'm fine,it's the Father.." Y/N sighed
"Well I sure hope he gets better too.Did you want the same thing?"
"Yeah, the liquid morphine.. uh..I'm not even gon' try."
The cashier chuckled again and gave her the syrup as Y/N put the money on the counter.
"Sweetheart do me a favor and put a mask on! ..the damn thing helps.. she pointed to the medicine but it really is crazy out there."
"I will,I will...I was just in a rush." Y/N carefully grabbed the bottle and left. "Bye ms.Marsha!"
She got on to her bike and started riding around the town. She got candy and a new lipstick. But still so much to spend.. I mean, she has a once in a life time opportunity to buy anything she wants, she can't just waste it! That's when the bike magically stopped infront of the glory place..
"The cinema.." she smirked and once again dropped her bike then ran to the building. She stopped infront of the flyers and started staring at the one with "Palace Follies" on it.Oh how she'd love to be a dancer...an actual one,not just daydreaming in a church. She got so lost in the flyer that when she turned around she bumped into another girl without realising that there was someone behind her.
"I'm so sorry!"
The girl grabbed a better hold of her medicine bottle and smiled at Y/N
"It's no worries..I shouldn't have stood so close either.." She giggled.
Y/N smiled back and nodded
"I just had to see the flyer..palace follies is sort of my happy place.I always come here to watch it...and when I don't,I'm thinkin' about watchin' it."
Y/N gasped "I thought I was the only one! It's like a disease.."
They both laughed as Y/N stuck her hand out
"I'm Y/N.."
The girl looked down and took it
"I'm Pearl."
