"You're making that concentrated face again, Nott."

"She calls herself Gibbon now."

"But her last name literally has Nott in it, Peele."

Having the power to read minds can be both good and bad. When she was a teenager, Evanora enjoyed it, just openly diving into people's thoughts without understanding the importance of privacy.

She didn't know any better. Then, the late Dumbledore stepped in. Instead of scolding her, the wise man offered advice on mind-reading.

Some thoughts were better left unheard.

It took a toll on Evanora, and that's when she learned to shut down people's thoughts voluntarily.

Evanora used to struggle with tuning out people's thoughts, but her time in the non-magical world helped her learn to control it. Now, in the great hall, she needed to focus on Professor McGonagall's words after the sorting ceremony for the first-year students. Year 8 students like Evanora were seated at the back.

That is where the girls met the boys; they were surprised to the point where the boys caught the attention of others, having changed a lot in the three years since they last met.

"Can the three of you quiet down?" Alexander whispered harshly towards his three friends. "Some of us are trying to listen to the Headmaster."

"Chill out, Alex." Leonel pouted slightly, "I'm sure the others aren't even listening."

Evanora raised a brow towards him. "Ah, not exactly. I'm trying to listen here. I'm just blocking out your bickerings and thousands of thoughts."

"You still hear them?" Jonah looks at her in concern; though Evanora was looking towards the side of where the professors were.

"Of course." Evanora said simply, "Without it, how am I supposed to catch the disguiser in the courtroom?" She turned towards Jonah.

Once Evanora joined them, the four boys bombarded her with questions about the courtroom accident. Evanora answered each question without hesitation.

At some point Jonah could only nod; observing if anything had changed in the years since he last saw her. Everything seemed the same, except for one thing.

Evanora appeared more guarded. Despite her smiles and occasional laughter at Leonel and Alexander's bickering and Caius's sarcastic comments, Jonah sensed walls around her, which worried him for a second but he brushed it off.

Soon,Professor McGonagall finished her speech; urging the Year 8 students to help the first years if they needed guidance.

The group had different schedules due to their elective classes. Evanora opted for Care of Magical Creatures and Magical Theory. Her first class coincided with Luna's, so the two bid farewell and left the group.
