> Josephine was only 13 when her parents died. She was really close with her mother, Janet. People would say that Josephine was a little version of her. Josephine looked up to her, she was Josephine's whole world. So when Josephine was running errands for her mother, you could expect Josephine to be devastated when she came home and found her mother lying on the floor of their living room.

It was a shock to everyone when Janet passed because her mother never had any serious health problems. But when the doctors told them that her mother had a heart attack, people were confused and upset. Josephine's mother was one of the most nicest people you would ever interact with, so when people found out she passed, a lot of people would tell Josephine and her father how sorry they were and that her mother was in a better place.

Josephine would always get mad when people would say that, she thought that the only place that her mother should be is with her and her father. Her father, William, would always blame himself for Janet's death. He thought that he could've stopped it from happening , just because he was a doctor, but in reality he couldn't have. William was a stern man, he wasn't mean or nice. He never really showed emotion unless he was with Janet, Janet was his world. He looked at her like she was the only thing on this planet. So when people saw him crying at her funeral they knew how much it affected him.

Josephine and her father never really had a close relationship. William loved Josephine and he would do anything for her, she knew this. But when Janet died everything changed. William started drinking and he stopped going to work. He felt like he couldn't live with himself, Josephine didn't know what to do. She knew her father would never hurt her but she knew to stay away from him when he was drinking.

Months after her mother death, the drinking got worse.

One night as William was getting home from the bar, he was drinking and driving. And as you can imagine, he got into an accident. Josephine didn't know what to feel once the police told her what happened. She was in shock, her grandmother on her fathers side offer to take her in and take care of Josephine.

Josephine's grandparents decided to home school her for awhile but then, 3 years later, her grandmother found out there was going to be a mixed school with girls and boys she thought it would be a good chance for Josephine to socialize with kids her own age. Her grandmother wanted Josephine to start over and start living her life.

> "Josie, it's time to get up!"

Josephine groaned as she felt someone shake her.

"Hm..." she grumbled as she started opening her eyes.

"Hurry up! And start getting ready, you don't want to be late on your first day!" Her grandmother said as she walked out of Josephine's room. Josephine hated getting up in the morning, it was one of the worst part of her day. But today was different for her. It was her first day of school!

Josephine got up and started getting ready for the day. She hasn't been this excited since her mother died.

As she finished getting ready she looked at herself in the mirror making sure she didn't look bad one her first day, she smiled as she stared at herself in the mirror. She had this pink dress that her grandmother made her a couple months ago that she never had a chance to wear until then. She finished the look with white heels and a headband.

"Good morning." Josephine said as she walked into the kitchen where both of her grandparents were eating breakfast. Her grandparents had a descent size house, you could definitely tell they had money but it wasn't a mansion.

"Are you excited?" Her grandma questioned with a smile. Looking at Josephine as she sat down across from her.

"Yeah, I'm a little nervous though." Josephine responded as she picked some bread that was on the plate in front of her.

"That's normal." Her grandpa said as he stuffed his face with the food her grandmother made.

"Well, I'm sure you'll fit right in. Your a smart girl Josie." Her grandma reassured her as she put a hand on Josephine's shoulder.

But little did Josephine know... her grandmother was so wrong...
