I remember my eternal reflection
staring at myself in the bathroom mirror
unsatisfied with my own perception
thinking our own end was nearer
as I walked outside my door
unknown what was in store
I contemplated if I was gonna be the next black kid, dying on the floor
If the cops would harass me or shoot me
even after putting my hands up, they'd think very loosely
Or, will it be a familiar face or someone who shares the same ancestry
In other words, will my own brother, a black man get the best of me?
See, instead of fighting and killing each other
We should stand together for you and I are brothers
Instead of you hating on somebody else's success, you should go out and do your thing
Make your money and not spend it on petty things like cars and bling
That's the entrapment of a black man
We're infatuated with materialism
That we fail to see the racist stereotypes hidden within them
The man would expect you to get a 40 inch chain
Not realizing that anything around your neck could represent the ignorance of a unknown slave
Me..I keep to myself, a quiet kid with high ambitions
For me and my people, and I hope one day you'll all listen
As the dark days are upon us as a people and a generation
I pray that the spirit of hope and strength can bring us salvation
But what am I talking about? How do I figure?
Maybe..to you..I'm just an ordinary nigga.
