1 Month Later...

Leon's midway through choking on his coffee, a result of my terrible joke, when my phone rings. I look to see who's calling before answering it. "Hunnigan, it's never good when you call us." I smile, noticing how Leon has a momentary look of panic until he sees that my smile doesn't fade. We've both developed some phone trauma, since in the past our phone calls from Field Office Support haven't been the best, but it's something we're dealing with, together.

"Well lucky for you I bring good news, FutureFront has officially been listed as a terrorist organisation and is being taken down as we speak, there's agents all over the country working to arrest anyone with associations with it. As for Grimhurst, the town is now being rebuilt since it received funding directly from the president, I'm guessing Leon had something to do with that?" I make a noise of agreement as Leon sips on his coffee. "How are you both doing?" She asks softer.

I look to Leon, who replies on my behalf since I never know how to respond. How can I say that I'm fine but have nightmares that keep me awake all night, shaking with terror? Or how Leon and I are the happiest we've ever been but can never have another cinema date again?

"We're healing, and my ribs don't seem to be hurting right now, which I'm taking as a win." Leon casually shrugs, leaning over the table to say into my phone as he takes the attention away from me, which I'm grateful for. "Don't forget I've still got another week left of my vacation..." Leon warns, but Hunnigan laughs in response.

"Yes I know, and we're all eagerly awaiting for our best agents to come back."

"Aww, they miss us!" I laugh, shrugging off the uncomfortable feeling when I'm reminded of my future. After Theodore and the whole outbreak I realised I enjoy being an agent, but only part time. I made a deal with the government, and thankfully the president accepted that I work part time as I study for a degree. I'm still Leon's partner most of the time, along with a full time wife to be. I look down at my engagement ring as Leon continues joking with Hunnigan, feeling giddy at the idea of being tied to him for life. I mean we already are, but we both wanted to make it 'official' rather than relying on a connection only we share.

"Hey, when am I getting a pay rise? I've got a wedding to pay for." Leon jokes, earning a happy huff from Hunnigan. They tease each other back and forth until she finally hangs up on him. I shake my head ruefully, slipping my phone back into my pocket as Leon grins at me. I grab my drink, sipping it as I look out of the window, watching the sun shine down and the public walk by, getting on with their own lives without the knowledge of the terrors that surround them.

"What's that look for?" Leon softly asks as he takes my ringed hand in his.

I shrug. "Nothing, I'm just glad we kept hold of our hope and lived through all of the horrors. I guess it's true that love, strength and hope will overcome a world of fear and hate, we've got a world full of possibilities, and I'm happy we're here to protect it." I say, truly meaning it.
