Ofc, me being myself, I couldn't help adding some random small hints of jokes here and there-- IM SORRY I CAN'T BE SERIOUS FOR LIKE 2 SECONDS SUE ME 😭😭
Hearts!!! ❤️- Jessi
I stomped angrily down the path, fists clenched, eyebrows lowered so low it almost hurt.
Through my head a lot of no-no words were spinning uncontrollably.
They were mostly toward John Dory.
Him and his stupid Family Harmony! It was as if we weren't already the biggest boyband in Troll Village.
No– we always needed to be more.
My legs, which had been stomping and taking long strides for about thirty minutes, screamed for me to stop walking and rest.
I basically collapsed onto a nearby rock, panting half out of exhaustion half out of anger, as I waited for the aching in my legs to cease.
Slowly I unclenched my hands. They were sweaty and I had marks on my palms from where the nails had dug.
I sat there and began to take slow deep breaths, trying to calm down. I've never been so angry in my life.
My breath came raspy and wavering and then I felt my nose burn and the hot tears blinded my eyes.
Seconds later they were falling down my face.
No matter how many times I wiped my face, more would come down. Finally, I gave up and let them flow, giving short gasps of air in between sobs.
What had happened?
Three hours before life had seemed normal. Sure, John had been flipping out about the Family Harmony thing and was being a bit bossier then normal, but that hadn't seemed that big of a deal. After he had given his "we-have-to-be-perfect-to-hit-it" speech, we had all moved on, Floyd passing a joke that made me and Spruce chuckle and feel better right before we started the show.
I couldn't laugh now to save my life.
It seemed so long ago I don't even remember what the joke had been about.
It didn't matter now.
Nothing did.
My brothers were gone now. No longer a part of my life. No longer there for me.
I had nothing.
I sniffed and took a swipe at my face again. My tears had slowed though I didn't know why. My life was getting worse and worse by the second.
The realization of the truth hit me like how a meteor might come out of nowhere and hurl itself into the earth's surface:
I was completely alone.
No grandma to play games with. No baby to cuddle with whenever he needed it (and sometimes I would need it too, honestly). No Floyd to tease, or Spruce to joke with.
No John Dory to cower behind when something amiss floats our way.
No one.
My tears had completely stopped now– I had nothing left to drop. I just sat, my butt getting numb from the stupid rock, and staring into space...
...remembering...
I had always been dependent on my bros. I mean, like, they were my life basically.
But now that they're gone, what else could I possibly do?
Was I still even sure my name was Clay without them here to call me that and remind me that it was?!
I don't need them, a voice kept reminding me over and over again. But the more it said that, the more questions that only they had the answer to popped up into my head.
What happens if I run into a mean critter? How will I earn my keep? Heck, what did I even usually eat for breakfast?!!
I usually just threw whatever Grandma put on my plate in the morning into my mouth without processing or questioning what she really gave me.
Would I be able to do anything without her and John Dory here to help?
I closed my eyes and tried to remember any advice they may have given me. John had always told me to be tough. To fight my own battles.
But then, after saying that, he had always fought my battles for me.
Grandma told me that in order to become a man I needed to learn how to survive without people to tell me what to do.
And then, after saying that, she always told me what to do.
Honestly, these two were no help.
And then I remembered something else Grandma had said.
"Always remember that one day your brothers won't be there for you. One day you'll have to live on your own. You're a strong, willing, smart young boy, Clay. I know one day you'll do something great, as will all of my grandsons.
But you can't do that 'something great' until you find out who you are first."
I remembered having told her that I was "The Fun One" and that was who I was. Grandma had sighed and kissed my forehead and continued making dinner, obviously showing that she didn't really believe that.
But The Fun One was always who I had been told to be. I had always enjoyed pulling pranks and telling jokes. Even at the times I knew it wasn't appropriate to do so.
Could there really be more to me than that?
There was one thing Floyd always said whenever someone wanted to try something new but wasn't sure if it would work:
You'll never know until you try. The only failure is when you stop trying.
I gave one more great big sniff, stood up, and brushed myself off.
I wasn't going to let a fight with my brothers ruin my future. I would journey...somewhere....to find...something...and learn who I was!
And I wasn't going to let anything get in my way.
I continued to stomp in the direction he had been going before, but these stomps weren't from anger.
They were determined.
So was my face, I'm sure.
My heart was, ehhh, 40% there. The rest of it was totally nervous.
But I had convinced myself that there was another part of me that I had to discover. And whether I'd find that through adventure, a person, or maybe just from life, which always seemed to throw unexpected things at you, I didn't know.
I was going to find out though.
Yes, I was still going to miss my brothers.
But sometimes, you can't always lean on everyone else to help you through life.
You need to build yourself up so maybe, one day, you can have others lean on you instead.
Besides, who knew?
Maybe I'd see them again.
So that's about how long I expect each of these chapters to be-- not that long:) I hope y'all enjoyed this one!
