I LOVED WRITING THIS CHAPTER SO MUCH!! I hope you enjoy💕
"What're we going to do now?"
"Are we doomed forever?"
"Will we ever see the rest of our family again?"
Questions bombarded Viva as soon as we entered the abandoned Bergen Golf Course. It wasn't the farthest we could get from the bergens, but it's a place they would never look.
The trolls who got stuck with us watched their princess anxiously, waiting for her to reassure them that nothing was going to go wrong, they were going to be with their families again, and that life would soon be all cupcakes and rainbows again.
I turned to my best friend.
Sweat ran down her forehead as she gasped for air, leaning over to take a breath. Her eyes dated everywhere, terrified, looking for a way to get out of this position she was stuck in.
She stood up, swiped at the curls that had fallen over her eyes during her frantic run for her life, and took a deep breath in.
"Trolls," she began, her voice shaking slightly, "I know we are stuck in a place we wish we weren't. And I know we want to go back and find our families again, but we can't. Not now. Not until we know it's safe again for sure." She took another breath.
I watched the trolls looking even more concerned. I knew what was running through their heads. If they had to hide until it was safe, who was going to lead them?
Back to Viva. As she talked about safety precautions and such, her body shook from adrenaline and anxiety. A rush of emotions had gone through everyone within the last twenty-four hours, but Viva has been feeling it the most.
They were going to make her their leader. It was fate.
But could she handle the tension? After losing her family?
"Before doing anything else, we all should look for places to live in. Maybe make some ourselves even. There are tons of places to hide in this golf course, which is good." Viva spread her arms out, showing the course to them while plastering a smile on her face. "We will make it, trolls. Just see if we don't."
The trolls looked a bit more boosted and sure of themselves. They nodded and began to search for good places to possibly hide and live.
I walked over and rested my hand on Viva's shoulder when all the trolls had left.
She turned to me and cried into my shoulder.
~~~
"What about this? An ice cream cone. It fits you," I suggested to Viva, trying to brighten her up a few hours later.
Viva looked up at the ice cream cone with the small hole in the center.
"If I hollow out the hole a bit more, I can make it more spacious and you can decorate it in any way you want. How does that sound?" I suggested.
She gave a careless shrug. "I don't know, Clay. My feelings more match living in that creepy frog over there than in this sweet ice cream cone of nothing." She pointed at the frog nearby.
"It's not nothing," I told her. "It's your new home."
She was quiet. "So you think we're going to be here for a while too, huh?"
I flushed. "I don't know," I said honestly. "But it's smart to be prepared in case we do."
Viva gave the saddest sigh I had ever heard her give. "I don't want to live here alone. I can't go to sleep without Poppy snoring in her crib right beside me."
