Yomikawa took in Hikaru and Mikoto at the ages of 12 and 3 respectively after finding them wandering the streets together. The three have lived together for 3 years when the plot kicks off, and despite outward appearances, Hikaru does genuinely care for her. This contrasts with Last Order, who sees her as her actual mother.
Hikaru Kurokage was born to unknown parents in Kawagoe, Northwestern Tokyo (We're never told where Kungigaoka is, so I'll be taking some.... creative liberties). Due to his parents not being able to financially support a child, he was swiftly passed over to an orphanage. After 4 years spent in the orphanage, Hikaru is "adopted" by a scientist looking for... "volunteers". He is brought to a facility in the Southwestern outskirts of Kawagoe, where he undergoes experimentation to create what the researchers deem a "superior human". The experiments in question consisted of forced learning to dramatically increase intellectual prowess, physical torture to increase resistances, psychological torture to forge a stronger mind, and a formation of a relatively grey moral compass. During his time in the facility, he meets the young Mikoto Misaka, another test subject in a different area of the laboratory.
Eventually, Hikaru finds an opportunity to escape when his restraints are left jarred, enabling him to (with very quick and careful planning) bring down the operation, rescuing Mikoto on his way. He proceeds to use his finely honed skills to take out most of the researchers with a face of nothing but stone cold apathy, and sets about freeing the other subjects. Promptly fleeing the facility with an infant Misaka in his arms (He doesn't care enough to take the others with him), he wanders the streets of downtown Kawagoe, eventually happening upon Aiho Yomikawa. Hikaru begrudgingly spills the truth to Aiho, who immediately reports everything to the law to get a search warrant as soon as posible. After the report is delivered, Yomikawa offers Hikaru and the now awake Misaka a place in her home. Hikaru is initially suspicious, but caves upon Mikoto's insistence.
3 years later, the dysfunctional Yomikawa household is in full operation. The youngest, Mikoto Misaka, is about to start Elementary school. The oldest, Aiho Yomikawa, is still serving as a drill instructor and task force leader (albeit in part time). And in the middle, Hikaru Kurokage is about to begin his 3rd year of Junior High at Kunugigaoka, West Tokyo. As the monotony of school looms overhead, an even bigger threat is just about to rear its suspiciously glossy yellow head. The stage is set, and the triggers primed. Let the Assassination......Begin!!

Author's Note: In case you couldn't guess, yes, this book is inspired by ToAru.
There will be no lemons in this book, hence Hikaru's asexual identity (like me :] ). There may be a romance, but if there is then I'll try to write it as naturally as possible. None of that "Love at first sight" fuckery, no siree. I'm also gonna try to stick to canon as much as possible, I'll be happy to answer any questions thrown at me with the power of raw bullshit. That being said, I will try to form original content in side chapters. For starters, I'm already planning how Hikaru would try to assassinate Koro Sensei, but that'll be a long way down the line.
Additionally, I'm gonna actively try to avoid making Hikaru an "edgy" or "badass" protagonist, as they're overused and never executed well, except for a SMALL HANDFUL of occasions.
I'll be trying to balance this with my university schedule, so I may not be able to upload every week, but that's my goal, we'll see how it goes. Since this is my first book on Wattpad, any *constructive* feedback would be appreciated. Don't just say "it's shit" and then fuck off into the aether. Actually tell me what to work on.
