Emily Alison Russel, also known mononymously as Emily, born February 15th, 1998, is an British-American actress, singer-songwriter, producer and model. Her artistry and entrepreneurship have influenced the music industry, popular culture, and politics, while her life is a subject of widespread media coverage. Emily began professional songwriting at 12. Emily has been ranked among the world's highest-paid singers by Forbes and Vanity Fair, and was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2020 and Woman of the Year in 2020, 2021 and 2022. As of January 2024, her net worth is $3 billion, making her the youngest self-made billionaire in the world.
PERSONAL LIFE
Born in in King's Lynn, Norfolk to father Steve and Alison, Emily is the older twin sister to George Russell. She has an older sister sister, Cara, one older brother, Benjy and her younger twin, George. Growing up in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, Russell was educated at the Wisbech Grammar School, before moving to America permanently at the age of 6 to promote her acting career. By the time she was 14, she had released her first album and started to focus on her music career and soon became one of the most popular artists. Since 2022, Russell has been living in Monaco.
CAREER
Emily began acting at the age of eight months, starring as a baby or child in commercials, television shows, and films. In 2001, Emily began appearing in episodes of NBC's television sitcom Friends, as Ross Gellers's daughter, Bella and carried out her role until 2004 when the show ended. In 2005, she made her appearance in the season finale of Grey's Anatomy ("Who's Zoomin Who?") as Allie Shepherd, the biological daughter of Derek Shepherd and soon she became a fan favourite until she left the show in late 2018, making her final appearance in the episode 'Jump Into The Fog'. The role on the long-running series earned her a Screen Actors Guild Award. The character became widely popular, making Emily one of the most renowned television actresses, despite her young age. She won nine Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
She was eight years old when she came to prominence for playing Kika Hudson on the Fox series Glee (2009–2015), for which she received three Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, two Golden Globes and three Grammy Awards for music recorded for the series, also spawning multiple hits on the Billboard charts. Emily won multiple awards for portraying Kika Hudson, including the 2009 Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress; Television Series Musical or Comedy. She was won the 2009 Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy, and the 2010 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. It was during her first season in Glee when the young actress decided to become a professional singer with the help from former cast mates Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera who both funded to help with her first album.
Emily starred in the 2016 superhero film Captain American: Civil War as Pippa Parker, A.K.A Spider-Woman. For this she won three BAFTA Rising Star Awards, Three Empire Awards for Best Female Newcomer, Six Kids' Choice Awards, six Oscars awards and three MTV Movie and TV Award for Best Performance in a Movie.
MUSIC CAREER
Her music career began in 2012 when she released her debut single, "Tattooed Heart". The song went to No. 1 and stayed there for thirty three weeks. She released her debut studio album 'emily' in late 2012 and since then has released nine studio albums and one EP. Emily has formed a close friendship with British singer, Harry Styles and has toured with him on several occasions and vice versa.
