As I led Kiara through the front door of our family home. a sudden wave of nervousness crashed over me, filling my chest with a heavy feeling. Kiara, standing by my side, looked completely calm and composed, which only made my own anxiety feel more intense. She gave me a gentle smile, her expression calming, before stepping inside.
Walking through the familiar halls of my childhood home, Kiara seemed to move effortlessly, like she belonged there. Meanwhile, every step I took felt clumsy, and each room reminded me of the tough summer ahead.
If My mother hadn't insisted that I spend the entire summer together with her, I would never have brought home a girl in my life. But she hoped that the forced togetherness would spark a connection which was just her misconception. As I wasn't even slightly sold on the idea, and neither was I willing to give it a shot.
As we Entered the living room, Agastya and Siya bhabhi ran towards us in excitement.
"Kiara Bhabhi, welcome to our home! I've been looking forward to meeting you all my life," Agastya exclaimed in a chirping voice as he hugged Kiara tightly, welcoming her as if she were a long-lost family member.
Kiara got a little uncomfortable as Agastya hugged her suddenly, but she tried her best to be calm as she hugged him back, saying "me too." Siya Bhabhi chuckled, watching them, and as I made eye contact with her, she gave me a sweet smile. "Come on, Agastya, let me meet her too," she said, tapping on his shoulder.
"Hey, Kiara, I'm Siya, Rajveer's sister-in-law. You're even prettier in person!" siya bhabhi complimented her as she also engulfed Kiara in her embrace. "Seriously, Rajveer, mom got you a jackpot!" Siya Bhabhi turned towards me.
Hearing her compliment, Kiara smiled shyly, her cheeks becoming rosy. The warmth of Siya's words eased the tension in the room, and I couldn't help but feel more uneasy with this passing conversation.
Looking at her rosy cheeks, my heart fluttered a little, making me more and more uneasy.
"Seriously, I am so jealous of Rajveer bhai right now. Do you have a younger sister you could set me up with?" Agastya joked with her, and everyone laughed at his silly joke while Kiara smiled awkwardly, shaking her head.
"Why don't we sit down first? Siya, how many times have I told you not to stand for so long?" Raghav Bhai said as he got in the dining room.
Kiara looked at him for a few seconds, as if trying to remember him, then bent down to touch his feet.
Raghav Bhai got a little startled by that; he quickly stepped back and touched her head awkwardly to bless her, "Khush raho."
"But you don't have to touch my feet," Raghav Bhai told her, "I am Rajveer's elder brother, that means I am your brother too." His words carried a warmth that eased the tension in the room, and I couldn't help but feel grateful for the sense of family that surrounded us, even in this awkward moment.
