When Tanjiro awoke, he slowly looked around to let his eyes regain focus. When they did, he saw that he was in a small dark room. There was only one small window which was boarded up, letting little to no light in. He sat up and rubbed the back of his neck. It was then that he tried figuring out how long he had been out for. He stood up from the tiny mattress positioned in the corner of the room and placed his hand on the wall. He still felt dizzy so he used the wall to support him. He looked around the room again. This time, to find a door which he saw on the other side of the room where he was standing.
Where the hell am I? Tanjiro thought to himself.
He then heard a faint click and saw the door to the room open. Tanjiro saw the same guy from before enter the room with the same smile on his face that Tanjiro was sure he never got rid of.
"Ah, good morning Tanjiro." He said cheerfully.
Wait, morning? Tanjiro thought to himself.
"I trust you slept well?" The man continued.
Tanjiro didn't respond. He just stood there, glaring at him. The man then began making his way toward him slowly. Tanjiro raised his fists as a way to say that he would fight his way out of here if necessary. The man kept walking and stopped just a few feet from Tanjiro. Two more men then entered the room carrying chairs. They were both placed next to the man and the two men left. The man grabbed a chair and slid it in Tanjiro's direction before placing himself in the other one. He then gestured toward Tanjiro. Tanjiro hesitantly lowered his fists and sat down in the chair, facing the man who still had yet to say anything.
"Well, now that you're a little bit more relaxed, I'm happy to answer any questions you may have."
Tanjiro looked the man in the eyes, not sure if he could trust him or not.
He sighed and sat up straight in his chair. "What's your name?"
"Oh right, where are my manners?" The man chuckled. "My name is Tsunaka. I'm the mafia leader."
"Alright, Tsunaka, why do you want me here so bad?"
Tsunaka didn't respond at first. He just looked at Tanjiro with an accusing look in his eyes.
"I don't understand why you're choosing to be quiet. You said you'd answer any questions I had." Tanjiro said angrily.
Tsunaka chuckled and leaned back in his chair. "You're right, I did. I just wanted you to think your question over a bit before I answered."
Tanjiro scoffed in response.
"I want you here because of how well you fight." Tsunaka finally answered. "With your skill, everyone here can rest easy knowing that we've finally found someone good enough to aid us in our fight. You're like a blessing to all of us. Meaning that you can't say no. You can only say yes and help us to fight and defeat our enemies." Tsunaka finished and the room went silent again.
"You-" Tsunaka looked at Tanjiro who was finally able to find the words to respond. "How dare you talk to me like I'm some kind of savior!? You kidnapped me! And yet you still expect me to help you!?" Tanjiro asked angrily, standing up from his chair. "I have my own problems! I can't sit here and waste my time on this!"
Tsunaka stood up and walked over to Tanjiro, placing his hands on his shoulders. "You're right, I do still expect you to help us. After all, you don't have a choice. I mean, what are you going to do? Fight your way out of here? We both know you don't stand a chance without your sword. Let alone the fact that you have no idea how many people are in this building or what each one is capable of. All your problems back home? You might as well forget about them and leave it in the past as you're never getting out of here. Not until you help us reach our goal and, even then, you still might not get out. Now stop being childish and just accept that this is who you are now. It'll make it easier for all of us."
Tanjiro looked at him with extreme anger. He refused to accept it.
"I'll never help you and I will get out of here. Whether I have to fight tooth and nail to make it happen I will get out." Tanjiro said bitterly.
"You are one tough cookie, I'll give you that." Tsunaka chuckled. "Unfortunately for you, it's not going to happen. No matter how many times you deny it." He then gave Tanjiro's shoulders a squeeze and turned around to leave.
"You'll pay for this! My friends will never let you get away with this!" Tanjiro screamed after him.
"That's funny because, last I checked, you're not due to return from your mission for about two more weeks. Meaning your friends aren't going to worry about you for a while. Also meaning that, by the time they start trying to look for you, you'll be long gone." Tsunaka replied.
Tanjiro shuddered. He knows I'm a demon slayer?
"W-what do you mean by "long gone"?" Tanjiro asked.
Tsunaka stopped at the door and turned to face Tanjiro. "We have plans to settle down in Germany for a few years to give us a bit of a fresh start. We depart in about a week."
Tanjiro's heart sank. Germany? No. I can't go there. I can't leave Nezuko. What if something happens to her?
"Wait!" Tanjiro shouted right before Tsunaka shut the door. "I have a little sister back at home. Please, I can't leave her. I'm the only family she's got left." Tanjiro responded, tears filling his eyes.
"See now, I don't see where that's my problem. I'm sure your friends will do what they can to give her a happy life. She doesn't need you. Not like we do anyway." Tsunaka replied grimly.
"You bastard!" Tanjiro shouted as he began running towards the door that was now shut.
He slammed his hands on the door and began beating it with his fists.
"Let me out! She needs me! I can't leave her alone! Please, I'm all she has!" Tanjiro screamed as tears began streaming down his face.
He continued beating on the door, completely ignoring the blood that began dripping from his knuckles. He then slumped to the floor in exhaustion and put his hands on his face."
"I'm so sorry Nezuko." He said softly as he continued to sit there, feeling all hope begin to fall away from him.A few hours went by with no word from Tsunaka or anybody else. Tanjiro had wrapped his injured knuckled with the bed sheet after he had calmed down and was now just lying on the mattress on his back, staring at the ceiling trying to come up with a way he could escape. That or find a way to at least get word to his friends about what happened. It was all he could think about and it slowly ate at him until he eventually fell asleep.
"So what's the plan boss?" Satsu asked as he and Tsunaka monitored Tanjiro through a few hidden camera monitors.
"The plan is to leave him in there until we leave. I figured it would be smarter to start training him in a place he's unfamiliar with in case he gets out of our reach. He won't be able to ask for help because he won't have any proof of foul play. Police will just think he's gone nuts." Tsunaka responded.
"Don't you think he'll go crazy being stuck in there for a week?" Satsu questioned.
"He'll be fine. If his drive and will to escape is strong enough, he won't allow himself to lose his mind. That I can assure you." Tsunaka replied as he got ready to leave. "Just keep an eye on him. If you notice anything suspicious, push the red button. It'll notify me and I'll be here to help as soon as I can."
Satsu nodded his head and Tsunaka opened the door and left.
