My morning was going about as well as planned. I had no hot water, so I had to take a FREEZING shower, I burned my morning toast, AND my local coffee shop was out of my favorite muffins! Just another day living in New York I suppose. Somehow I was early to work, so there's something. When I got to work I had a pile of paper work waiting for me to type out. The day was mostly normal, mostly........ I couldn't help but feel like there was an extra pair of eyes on me... just watching.... I looked around the office, trying to catch a sign that someone was watching. A hidden camera, an out of place co-worker, hell maybe even an animal with beady little eyes. Man I hate animals.

"Y/N"! I jump, looking over my shoulder to see who is yelling. "Y/n can you hear me? Hello? Coffee, now!"

"Oh uh right, sorry sir." I scramble my things, jumping up to do as he asks.

I finish up my small talk with my work best friend, whom I share the local gossip with from time to time, then I head out into the cold night. Everything is still, no wind, no cars, just the slight buzz of the street lights. This was unusual for a New York street at only 6pm. I'm not really the type to be easily freaked out, but this has me a bit flustered. My apartment is only a few blocks from my work, so walking from work to home isn't a huge deal. My eyes are darting all around, checking reflections in the dark windows of the buildings around, to see if anyone is following me. I don't see anything obvious, but a good kidnapper is one who isn't seen until they attack. I pull my jacket tighter around my arms. I'm shaking uncontrollably, although tonight isn't as cold as most New York nights in the middle of March. I check another reflection and I see a black van with blacked out windows shortly behind me. How did I not hear them? I whip around and I can't see the driver, but the car is slowly moving closer. I break out into a run, when I hear the side door fly open and see four maybe five men jump out. I bolt down the street unsure of exactly what's happening. Why would someone be trying to kidnap me? Or worse... trying to kill me! The men start shooting at me. Thankfully I am mostly in black, so I shouldn't be super easy to see. My only light clothing was my white button down shirt, which was covered by my black jacket. I try to take cover in a tight alley between some buildings. This was a terrible idea, but I didn't have many options. I stood there watching my own breath in the cold air, when I heard gunshots go off with loud screams shortly following. It sounded like the men hunting me were the ones being hunted. I peaked around the corner and that's when I saw him, a tall man wearing a suit. I couldn't see him very well with the only lights being the dim street lights, but I saw him enough to see faint grey in his slicked back hair. I watched as he shot two more of the men. However, he wasn't killing them. He seemed to be shooting them in their knees. The one man who hadn't been shot jumped back in the van barley escaping the man in this suit. At this point I was clearly visible. I must have been so focused watching this man that I forgot I was hiding in the first place. The man had blood dripping from his forehead like someone had punched him. I stood there with my mouth hanging open, unsure if I saw everything correctly. His piercing blue eyes shot in my direction, he had spotted me.

The man began approaching me. I froze in fear, unsure of what I should do. I could run, but a man that large and that fit would probably be able to catch up with ease. I could fight, but I am unarmed and there's no way I could take this man in a fight, unless maybe if I had a machine gun, even then it's iffy. So, I did nothing. I just stood there staring as he got closer. At this point he was only a few feet away, then I heard it, police sirens. The sound came from behind me. I turned to see a police car turning the corner. I looked back towards the man and he was gone.... disappeared into thin air. The police car approached and a woman stepped out. She was a dark skinned woman with black hair pulled back into a tight low ponytail. She wasn't super tall, probably about my height. She wasn't big or scary, but she carried herself in a way that made it clear you didn't want to mess with her.

"Ma'am my name is officer Carter, and I got a call saying gunshots were heard in this area, have you seen anything?" her voice was high but stern. She stared at me waiting for a response. I didn't know what to say, I wasn't even sure exactly what had happened.

"Yes officer... I uh... there were men... they shot at me... this.. guy in a suit.." She stopped me mid sentence.

"A guy in a suit?" she asked.

"Yes ma'am, there were these men with guns, big guns! And they ran at me, but this man showed up and-" she stopped me again mid sentence.

"Alright miss it's okay I'll take it from here, go home and relax, you can come to the station and file a report in the morning." She didn't wait for my answer. She turned and pulled out her phone like she was about to make a top secret phone call that she didn't want me to hear. Honestly, I didn't care. I just wanted to go home and wake up from this nightmare.
