Shaw

Everything is spinning, and my eyelids feel heavy. I rub my eyes trying to get my vision back.

"Way to go genius, now she's really not going to trust us." This voice is new, it's female.

"What was I supposed to do, sit there and argue with her?" This voice I do know, it's John.

"You could've just kept your mouth shut. Oh here's a better idea, you could have just killed Elias's guys, and never approached her in the first place." The woman seems to be yelling in a whisper.

"Oh yeah Shaw that's a great idea. Let's piss off Elias by killing his men, and make him come after all of us." He's yelling in a whisper as well. Shaw... that must be the woman he's talking with.

"Guys, our friend seems to be awake." Another voice.. although it's familiar, no... it can't be. I get my vision back and look to see who the voices are. I was right, it is glasses, Harold. He knows them? How would such a sweet polite man know John. It's worse than that, he doesn't just know him, he's friends with him! The three of them look down at me, I realize I'm on the floor. I'm not tied down to anything, or strapped to a chair. For being kidnapped, you'd think they would have at LEAST tied my hands together.

"What, did you think we would have you strapped to an electric chair or something?" Shaw asks with an amused look on her face.

"Not exactly." I push myself up into a sitting position. "What do you guys want."

"We want to protect you miss L/N" Harold says as he offers me a cup of what appears to be tea.

"Oh so you jam a needle into me?" I push away his hand holding the cup.

"I say your name and you freak out, he says your last name and you don't question it?" John asks.

"Well, I already know you guys know my first name, so I'm not surprised you know my last. What are you guys, some kind of stalkers?" I ask. They all look at each other without saying anything. Shaw walks over and reaches her hand out.

"Come on, I'll help fill you in." I take her hand and she pulls me off the ground onto my feet.

---

"So let me get this straight," I rub my temples "Elias is some major crime lord who wants me dead and none of us have any idea why?"

"Yep." Shaw answers as she sips her tea.

"I've never even met the man, why on earth would he target me?" I ask. Shaw stares down at her cup. I look over at John who's leaning against a bookshelf, he clearly doesn't know. I look over at Harold who's fiddling with his cup. "Oh good, so we all have no idea." Harold stops fiddling, he seems to be looking at my neck.

"Miss L/N, where did you get that necklace?" he asks. I look down at my chest.

"Oh this? It was a gift from my boss, I've been working for him for two years." Shaw and John are now both looking at it.

"Can I take a look at it?" Shaw asks.

"Why should I trust you again?" I scoff. She leans forward.

"Because I'm the one who stopped that van from catching your ass, so hand it over sweetheart." Now it all makes sense, she seems like the type who'd love a good snipping gig. I take off my necklace and hand it to her. She takes it and examines it. "Wow, real silver, this thing must cost a fortune. What does your boss do again?"

"He owns a section of a tech company." I explain "Why does that matter?" I ask. John peers over her shoulder looking at the necklace.

"That's an awfully expensive gift for an employee." John takes the necklace from Shaw. "Do you have any sort of relationship with your boss?" He asks.

"Gross no! I don't even like the man! And I'm pretty sure he's not the biggest fan of me." John glances at Harold who is staring at me.

"Then why would he give you such a nice present?" Harold asks. That was a good question, which I didn't have a good answer to. Why would he give me such a nice gift? My blank stare seems to answer his question. "Miss L/N you need to take that necklace back to him immediately." I nod in agreement.

"I'll go with her," Shaw stands up "John you should try and track down Elias." John nods and disappears without saying a word. Whew, I think I like the fact I don't have to deal with him anymore. "Harold we're gonna take Bear."

"Miss Shaw I'd prefer if you didn't, miss L/N hates dogs." Shaw looks at me with a confused look.

"You hate dogs?" she asks.

"Yeah, it's a long story." she didn't push any further.

"Okay, let's go track down your boss." she smiles. The concept of smiling seemed new to her, like that was the first time she ever had a smile on her face.

---

Since it was the weekend I had no idea where to find my boss, but she seemed to know exactly where she was going. She drove down the streets of New York without a care in the world. I don't know how she found out where he was, and honestly I didn't want to know. That was the least concerning thing that's happened in these past 24 hours. I held the necklace in my hand, staring at the jewel in the center. I should have known something was up when a man who doesn't even like me gave me such a nice gift.

"You doing okay?" Shaw asks, keeping her eyes on the road.

"Yeah." I don't really know how to answer that question. My life is boring, normal. Everything has changed in such little time. So no, I'm not doing okay, but she doesn't really seem like the type to help you feel better. "How close are we?" I ask.

"Close." I'm not sure how to feel about her. It's not that she's rude exactly, she just seems to have no emotion, except for maybe anger. I put the necklace in my front right pant pocket. Once I give this back to my boss, everything should be fine. If Elias comes after me again, I'll explain everything. Harold seems to have connections, he can probably straighten this out. Suddenly a truck comes out of nowhere and smashes into our car making me fly forward banging my head on the dash. I whip under my nose and look at my hand, it's covered in blood. Another car comes shortly behind the truck, it's the van! A half dozen men get out of the van carrying guns.

"Hang on!" Shaw yells. She tries to put the car in reverse, but it doesn't move. She grabs her gun and jumps out of the car shooting at the men. I shuffle around seeing if I can find something to defend myself with. I look out the shattered window and I see Shaw laying on the ground. She doesn't seem to be bleeding, I think she was knocked out. My car door flew open, it's him, the man with the scar. He grabs the back of my head and slams my head back into the dash, my vision fades.....
