Evening classes were just around the corner, Maya had fifteen minutes left to arrive at the 'Magical Beast and Creatures' class. M. B. C. for short. Beasts of Aether were more active during night, so it was more better to conduct research on them by dusk. It allowed individuals to deeply understand the traits and characteristics of aether beasts.
Professor Arwin would be taking this class. The grumpy, sinister-looking and evil-minded teacher.
'If I didn't know better, I'd assume professor Arwin was the secret villain in this world. That old man's pleasure is the infinite pain of others, with his weird looking beard- of course they always have weird beards! Tch, typical.' Maya grumbled internally.
Sincerely stating, Professor Arwin was one of the people she disliked. No particular reason, at least she hadn't been targeted by him and his wicked scoldings, but watching him do it to others wasn't particularly pleasing. It left one feeling tense. Too tense to study. It was not a conducive study atmosphere for Maya.
The young teen brought out her phone from her pocket, checking the time as she took a sharp turn to the left, abruptly bumping into something.
While Maya didn't fall from the collision, her phone fell and cracked pathetically. The sound of its tragedy was particularly heart wenching to Maya.
'Chocolate pancakes!'
Maya picked up her phone that had a screen looking like a spider's web, the light from her screen extinguished.
With eyes closed, Maya took in a deep breath and tried to stop the tears welling up in her eyes. Her grip slacked and the phone fell once more.
'Stupid.' She wailed internally.
"She has accompanied me for seven years." She whimpered, hand lightly clutching her pendant in a desperate seek for comfort.
"That must suck." A masculine voice said, a hint of amusement in the person's voice.
Maya's heart lit up in flames of anger but when she locked eyes with glowing red ones, her heart turned to ashes and faded into the wind.
'Vassilis, Rutherford.'
"Excuse me." She breathed, bent down and picked the phone. Ignoring the thumping of her heart beat- be it from the pain of losing her phone, the building anxiety, or the close contact with a dangerous predator, Maya was unsure. It could be some of them, or perhaps, all.
Maya walked pass Vassilis with brisk footsteps, her lips trembling as she withheld the desire to cry and curse.
"I'll pay you back." She heard him say from behind.
'Don't.' She whispered within.
But logic told her she would very much appreciate the pay. That was a rich kid... though the collision was the fault of both of them, or mostly because of Maya's carelessness, Maya was sure the boy could've avoided the hit. So the blame was balanced, and if one party could afford to settle the aftermath, it was appreciated.
'A high class creature such as Vassilis shouldn't be that careless to bump into someone.'
But dwelling on the mystery behind the accidental hit was not Maya's priority. Her baby was lost.
The treasure she meticulously took care of, had died in such a tragic manner.
'Mama's first gift... “argh!”
Her condition flared up and just a few steps in her walk, she began gasping for air. Her mind buzzing and body rapidly deteriorating.
"Triple fuck." Maya groaned. "I must be very lucky today, am I not?"
