Chapter 2
I was falling. Moisture glided down my skin chilling me to the bone as I passed through cloud after cloud on my way down. The wind battered at my body feeling like a thousand piercing needles. I was going to die. I could see the ground now as I looked down. I was falling above a forest. The trees were so densely packed together all I could see was the canopy. It still seemed such a long way off.
Then suddenly I was there, falling through the canopy, twigs scraping me as I closed my eyes waiting for the end. Reflexively my arms reached up trying to grab a hold of something, anything. And then I caught it. My hands clamped on a branch and my shoulders felt as if they would rip out of their sockets from the momentum my body still tried to keep. I screamed in agony....
And opened my eyes as I woke up.
It was just a dream. I was ok. Then my vision adjusted. The damp stone walls, and permanent chill in the air clued me into my location. I was in what could only be a dungeon. The damp coldness stuck to my skin making me shiver, both from the cold and fright. What was going on? I tried to move my arms to wipe the moisture off my skin and my shoulders cried in pain. I was dangling from the ceiling by chains hooked on my wrists!
All of a sudden my memories came back. I came to kill the vampire. I made it to the room. I was about to kill him, and then... I went unconscious. How did that happen?
"you don't know much about vampires do you girly?" a deep voice filled the room. I couldn't see anyone. Where was he?
"haha, how cute, I'm in your head darlin'."
Wait. That meant he could read my mind?
"slow on the uptake as well I see."
I growled at the insult trying to get out of my bonds. All I achieved was tiring my arms out more.
"ooo scary, If I didn't know better I'd say you were a lycan." The sarcasm was dripping like venom off of his words.
I fumed but didn't say or do anything else. This is what he wanted; to make me angry. Why wasn't I just dead already? I knew that was my fate. Why did he have to draw it out? The questions ran through my head faster than I could really comprehend them. My head started building that pressure again. It hurt it hurt.
Then it stopped. I tried to feel the presence of the vampire in my mind again, but it seemed that he was gone. My body slowly relaxed, and in under a minute I was asleep again.
It took me less time to remember what was happening when I woke again. Again that question "Why?" surfaced. By all rights I should be dead. I tried to kill an important leech. When would they get it over with!
I was still dangling from the ceiling and by now I'd lost all feeling in my arms. They could have fallen off and I wouldn't have noticed. The only reason I knew they were still there was because I still couldn't move. I didn't even bother struggling this time. There was no use.
After a minute I started to feel a strange tapping in my head. It quickly grew uncomfortable. I wriggled as my head started to itch on the inside. I heard a chuckle and realized this must be his doing. "Stop it you filthy leech just kill me already!"
Another chuckle. "Well, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." He cooed mockingly. "You just be a good little human and I'll see you tonight. We'll have a little chat." He was still chuckling as he left my mind.
I was both terrified and relieved. Tonight was the night. My life would end, but at least there would be no more suffering. Sure, he would probably make my death painful but after that there would be nothing. I long ago lost hope in heaven, that there was some life after death or someone watching over us. When I died it would be the sleep of forever, and that was welcoming compared to this nightmare world.
