THE SMELL of fresh baked goods and coffee lingers in the air, cradles, even lulls. Quiet commotion drowns the beeping and buzzing of the ovens and mixers. The atmosphere is therapeutic in every way possible, treating the two hungover employees well.

"Hi! What can I get you?"

"Hi! I have a cake order." with a tiny envelope in her hand, this female customer approaches the counter while Bomin waits behind it.

"Okay, what kind?" she asks her, wipes her hands on her apron before taking the envelope that she's handing over.

"It's a gender reveal cake. The gender is in the envelope." the customer tells her with an excited smile.

It's only then that Bomin notices a small baby bump that her tight grey top reveals slightly. She smiles too, is infected by the happiness the customer shares.

She's an older woman, perhaps in her forties. Her excitement could be a sign of anything but Bomin likes to think this is her first child and a long awaited one. It makes everything a little more special.

"Amazing. For how many people and do you have any prefences with the decorations and filling?" she asks as she grabs the order iPad to open a new one, her red acrylic nails clicking against the screen while she skillfully and swiftly writes on the header box 'GENDER REVEAL'.

Yes, all caps. Just so whoever gives the cake away, doesn't accidentally say 'white cake with pink filling'. They've learned the hard way.

"I was thinking about the exterior being just white and simple and the gender color inside between the layers. But this is just for me and my husband so it can be a really small one. And we'd like it to be a chocolate and cherry one." the customer says, her hand landing on her bump to caress it.

"Mhm, okay." Bomin hums, focuses on writing everything down on the iPad while holding the envelope between her fingers, "And when are you picking it up?"

"On Saturday, at noon, if it's fine."

Index finger tapping the 12th of October, Bomin quickly checks the schedule to see if it's possible. It is, fortunately and surprisingly, but if it was a normal week at the bakery, it wouldn't have been as they're usually fairly booked and busy.

"Of course." she says, gives her a brief smile, "And your name?"

"Kim Hwajin."

"Perfect, thank you." nodding, Bomin taps in the customer's name before putting the iPad down on the counter.

They handle the rest of the order measures, including the booking fee, before the bell above the entrance dings again as the giddy customer leaves, beaming.
