Don't say I didn't warn you!!ABUJA,
NIGERIA.NARRATOR'S POV
It was as if the whole world was still, just the two of them, along with the birds, oceans, waterfalls, flowers, and all things beautiful.
All the noise of their friends 'awwns' faded. It was only her eyes he could see, and it was mesmerising.
It felt like all he had gone through, the hardship, sacrifice, torture, and bad dreams were all healed and disappeared when she smiled at him.
When Layla walked into the room, all eyes gravitated toward her.
Her face, a delicate mask of politeness, concealed a disdain that only Hakeem could discern.
She moved with a grace that left Hakeem spellbound, his heart pounding with adoration.
He leaned in, his voice a tender whisper, "You look absolutely stunning, Layla. You're making it hard for me to focus on anything else."
Her eyes flashed with irritation as she shot him a warning glare.
"Stop looking at me like that," she replied through gritted teeth, her smile tight and insincere.
But Hakeem couldn't tear his gaze away. "I can't help it," he murmured, his eyes locked onto hers. "I'm just so lucky to have you as my wife."
For a fleeting moment, Layla's facade faltered, a flicker of disbelief crossing her features before she regained her composure.
"Lucky, huh?" she retorted, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Well, I'm not exactly thrilled about being stuck with you either."
A smirk played across Hakeem's lips. "Oh, how charming of you," he replied, his tone equally sarcastic. "I can see we're going to get along just swimmingly."
Tension thickened the air as photographers captured their obligatory family portraits.
Hakeem seized the moment to steal away with Layla, guiding her gently by the hand to the garden behind her house.
LAYLA'S POV
Despite my reluctance, I followed, conscious of the watchful eyes of our families.
In the garden, He revealed a lavish gift: a sleek, custom-made Rolls Royce Phantom.
My eyes widened in surprise at the extravagant gesture, though my hatred for him simmered beneath the surface.
Just then, Tata Zarah and Tata Faiza appeared, clearing their throats, followed by Goggo Nana, Dija, Zee, Fatima, and Asmi.
Surrounded by his watchful relatives, I had no choice but to reluctantly accept the gift.
Unable to hide my frustration, i muttered hurtful words under my breath, cursing his audacity.
But he remained calm, his smile unwavering.
With gentle determination, he wrapped his arms around me, offering a hug I couldn't dare refuse.
"Don't be shy, Layla!" Tata Zarah called out, misunderstanding my reluctance as shyness.
Reluctantly, i leaned into his embrace, my whispered words a sharp contrast to his firm optimism.
The embrace ended quickly, and I withdrew, and walked back into the house with the tip of my lafaya in hand.
