I wake up and notice Alex is still asleep. I smile softly and brush a stray piece of hair out of her face. I take a quick picture before rummaging through my case and choosing an outfit. I get dressed and then get an outfit ready for Lex. I notice the time and wake her up.
"Baby girl. Time to wake up kiddo." I exclaim
She wakes up and latches onto me. I cuddle her.
"Morning mommy." She exclaims
"Morning Lex. Let's get you dressed. I've got us going to go look at a house today?" I reply
"Yay!" She smiles
I help her change and then I make toast for breakfast. We eat and then head out. I pull up at the house and get Lex out. We walk inside. The realtor walks out of a room.
"Miss Brett?" She ask
"Yes, hi, and this is my daughter Alexandra." I reply
"Welcome, feel free to look around. I'll be in the main room." She explains
I nod. We look around the bottom floor. Alex gets excited and runs upstairs.
"Alright Lex, slow down." I chuckle as I follow her.
We look around. It's a pre-furnished cause I don't have anything. I lived with a mate in Australia, where we came from.
"This can be my room!" Alex calls from a room
I walk in and see pink butterflies on a lavender wall and a bed with a lavender Canopy on it. I nod. We head back downstairs. I find the realtor.
"Hey, how much?" I ask
"You want to buy it?" She asks
"Yes!" I exclaim, "it's perfect!"
"Uh, in total is 340k." She tells me
"Alright. I'll write a cheque. I saved up a ton of money where I used to live." I smile and grab my cheque book.
I write the cheque and hand it to her. She nods and hand me the keys.
"Welcome to your new home!" The realtor smiles, "have a good day!"
She leaves.
"Alexandra!" I call
She runs in from the yard, "yes mommy?"
"We get to live here now!" I tell her
"Yay yay yay yay!" She smiles
I chuckle, "well, let's go and get our bags from the hotel and then get settled in huh?"
She smiles happily. We head out to the car after I lock up the house. I drive back to the apartment. We go in.
"Alex, can you clear out the bathroom and put everything into the bathroom bag?" I ask her
"Yes mommy." She runs into the other room.
I start packing up our main belongings. Alex exits the bathroom dragging a bag. I smile softly and place the bag on the bed. I collect our bags and follow Alex downstairs. She holds her iPad. We get to the car and I place all the bags in the back of my jeep. I close the back door and grab the hotel room key.
"Alex, do you want to take the key back to front desk?" I ask
She shakes her head and holds onto my waist. I lift her up and carry her into the entrance. I give the room key to the receptionist. I head out to the car. Alexa buckles herself in. I hop in and drive to the new house. I park.
"Ok, Lexi. I'm gonna take the bags in. You go play in the yard!" I tell her as she unbuckles herself.
"Yes mommy." She nods.
I get her out and unlock the front door. She runs to the backyard. I start carrying the bags in. I put Alexa's bags in her room. I put my bags in my room. I sort out the last few bags. I unpack them and then decide to sort out schooling for Alexa. It's almost the end of summer. School year starts soon. I get my laptop out and sit in the hammock on the back porch. I go onto the schools website. I go to the enrollment page. I start enrolling her. I add her Anxiety to health conditions. The website says I should do a meet with the staff who would assist Alex with her anxiety. I book one for just before the school year starts. The enrollment process finishes. I put my laptop away and message Sylvie. She decided to come over for a bit. The doorbell rings.
"Alex Mari. Can you answer the door for me?" I call
She nods and runs inside.
"Auntie Sylvie," she screams
I smile as Sylvie makes her way outside with, basically a baby koala, clinging to her. Which is where one of her nicknames come from.
"Hey, my little koala, do you want to let auntie Sylvie go?" I ask her
"Ok." Lex smiles
"Baby girl, on Monday, we have to go to your new school. We're going to meet someone who will help you when you're at school ok?" I tell her
"Ok." She nods.
"Want to go play Lex?" Sylvie asks
"Yes!" Alexandra leads Sylvie into the yard.
I chuckle softly. I sit in the hammock.
"Alex, get out of the tree kiddo." Sylvie calls
I look up and see her sitting in the tree.
"Alexandra Mariana Brett. Get out of the tree." I call
She starts to climb down but falls. I jump out of the hammock and run over.
"Mommy!" She cries
"Shh! You're ok baby." I soothe.
She has a scrape of her knee and a cut on her arm with some bark in it.
"Let's go inside. Where's your first aid kit?" Sylvie asks as I lift Alex into my arms.
"Under the kitchen sink." I exclaim as we walk inside.
Sylvie heads into the kitchen as I lay Alex on the couch. Sylvie comes back in. I sit behind Alex and hold her head in my lap.
"I'm going to clean your leg first ok Lexi?" Sylvie tells her
Lexi nods and I grab her hand on her uninjured arm. She squeezes tight as Sylvie disinfects the scrape then puts a Band-Aid on it. She then moves up to her arm. She uses tweezers to remove the bark.
"Owie!" Lex cries
"Shh." I soothe and play softly with her long blonde hair.
Sylvie finishes and bandages up her arm.
"Alright, all done kiddo." Sylvie tells her as I sit her up and she clings to me, "no more climbing trees for a bit ok?"
Lex nods and buries her head in my neck.
"I'm gonna go. See you on Saturday sis." Sylvie replies, "bye Lex."
"Oh shoot, I gotta find a sitter!" I exclaim
"Until you find one, talk to chief, he'll more than likely be happy to have Alex around." Sylvie replies before leaving.
I give chief Boden a quick call.
"Brett? What's up?" Boden answers
"Sorry to pull you away from family, but I don't have a sitter just yet, is it all right if I bring Alexandra around for shift on Saturday?" I ask
"Sure. I like having the little one around." He replies
"Thank you chief," I reply
"All good. Have a good night." He exclaims
"Bye chief." I end the call.
"Alright honey. I'm going to make some tacos for dinner huh?" I ask
She nods and I sit her on the couch. I put a cartoon on for the six year old.
"Thanks mommy." She smiles
"You're welcome my koala." I smile and kiss the top of her head.
I go into the kitchen and get everything ready. I cook the mince and cut up everything else.
"Pumpkin pie!" I call, "come over here! Come tell me what you want in your taco.
She jumps off the couch and runs over to me. She sits up on a stool,
"Can I have lettuce, tomato, mince and cheese!" She laughs
"You always were my little cheese monster." I reply
She smiles, "can I have sour cream too?"
"Of course bubs," I tell her whilst putting her taco together.
I give it to her and make mine. I look up my see Alex has sour cream and mince all over her face. I chuckle softly and sit beside her. I start eating my tacos and then put the plates in the dishwasher. I bring Lex to the sink and clean her face. She runs back over to the couch as I finish up cleaning.
"Shower!" I call
Alex runs upstairs and I follow. I turn in the shower and help her undress. I remove her bandage and give the sores a quick once over. I help her in. I start cleaning her before she screams in pain as water hits the cuts on her arm.
"Out!" She cries
I nod and turn off the water. I wrap her towel around her and dry her off. I pat dry her arm. I wrap it back up in the bandage. I take her to her room and get her in her nightdress. She clings to me as I read her a book.
"Alright. We can watch 2 episodes of Bluey," I exclaim as I turn on her tablet.
She chooses the episodes and we watch them. I then tuck her into bed and turn her music on. I lay on the floor beside her as she falls asleep. I get up and watch something on TV before heading to bed.
