Brayden

I woke up the next day to the sound of my phone. It was still the weekend, and we did not have any hockey till regular season started in a few days, so today I planned on relaxing, and finishing moving into the new place. Between talking to Brooks yesterday afternoon, and again last night, I was able to help unpack the kitchen and living room, however my bedroom remained untouched. I had managed to go through some of the boxes in search of my phone charger, but came up empty and called it a night before heading to bed. Remind me to pack more strategically next time.

I roll over in my bed and frantically feel around my phone not wanting to open my eyes. Who the fuck was calling me so early! After no success in blindly finding my phone, I slowly open my lids and blink repeatedly to adjust to the light. My clock was flashing next to me. 11:30am. Shit I slept in. That does not happen very often between early morning practice, or classes, but now. I did not have another practice until tomorrow and as for the classes... there are perks to no longer being a student. Today was one of the only days in my life that I did not set an alarm before the sun rose, and I guess my body needed sleep.

My phone keeps ringing as I stir to find it in my bed. After not plugging it in last night it was not sitting on my nightstand where I would have normally put it. I eventually find it amongst my sheets and take in the name that is displayed across the screen. I sit up quickly, and answer before the call dies and bring the phone to my ear.

"Brooks?" I ask with concern in my voice. My voice comes out hoarse as I just woke up, and I attempt to clear my throat. This was not exactly what I was expecting to be woken up to. For reasons I can't explain I was worried that something had happened, that she needed help, but I was going to let her explain before driving myself crazy.

"Wow! What did I do to deserve my real name! Does this mean rookie is dead" Brooks' voice comes through the phone chipper, and I could tell that she has been up for hours. I can't help but think about what she has been doing all morning. I smile at the sound of her voice, along with the fact that she is obviously okay.

"No way in hell. To what do I owe this honor, Rookie" I say sharply to prove a point.

I can hear her smiling when she replies. "I'm on my way to your house, so get your ass out of bed and put on some pants.".

I freeze in place. Did she say that she was coming here? I take my phone away from my ear and look at the screen just to make sure that I was in fact talking to Brooks and not dreaming "You're on your way over here?" I question, half convinced that I am in fact dreaming.

"Um... yes? Keep up Bombay I don't like repeating myself". There is that sarcasm. "Do you have an issue with me coming over?".

"Sweetheart, if I ever say yes to that, you have my permission to put me in an early grave, you understand me". How could she even think that for a second.

"I'll hold you to that! Now are you getting up or not?"

I climb out of the bed while sliding into a pair of sweatpants, before making my way downstairs. "Yeah yeah, I got pants on, but I don't know where my shirts are so you're gonna have to live with just pants"

My voice comes out groggy, as I make my way downstairs and into the kitchen.

"Oh I think I will survive"

I suddenly remember that I still have no clue why she is on her way over. "So tell me again, why are you coming over Rookie?"

"Wouldn't you like to know" she snaps back with a giggle.

"Yeah I would. And until you give me a definite answer I'm gonna start jumping to conclusions and you might not like where my mind ends up".

"Get your head out of your ass. I'll be there soon enough". Before I could even answer, Brooks hangs up the phone and I am left in silence. As I stand in the kitchen astonished by her rudeness, I take a seat on the island and wait for Brooks.
