Chapter 22

As Taehyung sleeps in Jungkook's arms, he feels a sinister presence near them and then hears a sharp tap on the hotel suite door. Taehyung quickly sits up in a panic and jumps out of bed. The door to his and Jungkook's room suddenly opens when Namjoon rushes in and tosses a bag to Taehyung.

"Run. You two need to run." Namjoon tells Taehyung as he rushes to the bedroom window and opens it. 

"What about you?" Taehyung asks Namjoon as Jungkook protectively wraps him in his arms.

"There is no time. Go to Yoongi's cloud. Go!" Namjoon quickly shoves the pair out of the room as the suite door is busted open.

Without hesitation, Taehyung grabs Jungkook and jumps from the balcony to the ground. When they land, Jungkook grabs Taehyung's hand and runs toward the highway. Their hearts are racing with fear as that haunting knock echoes in their mind.

As they run, they hear dogs barking in the distance, chasing them. "Hunters," Taehyung mutters and turns his head to look at the hunting dogs chasing them.

"We need to split up! I am slowing you down!" Jungkook shouts as they near the highway.

Before Taehyung can argue, Jungkook shoves him into traffic, knowing the vampire can avoid the vehicles easily. "Run!" Jungkook shouts before running in a different direction.

"Stupid human." Taehyung hisses and avoids the vehicles speeding down the highway.

When Taehyung reaches safety, he tries to chase after Jungkook, but he hears the snarling of the hunting dogs. "Right. They can smell vampires. They will chase me instead of Jungkook. Hey! You mangey mutts! Follow me!" Taehyung shouts, drawing the full attention of the hunters and dogs.

After grabbing the attention of the dogs and hunters, Taehyung runs fast enough to keep out of reach of the dogs but not fast enough to lose the dogs. His goal is to draw them as far away from Jungkook as possible.

As Taehyung runs into the forest, he hears a gunshot ring through the air. When he hears the bullet whizzing toward him, the vampire quickly dashes to the left to avoid the bullet, causing the bullet to slam into the tree beside Taehyung's head.

"Get the parasite! Now!" The hunters shout as they point their guns at Taehyung.

The vampire's heart hammers out of his chest as he picks up his speed to avoid the bullets. Tears prick his eyes as he is hunted down like a rabid animal. From the scents of the hunters, Taehyung knows that they find pleasure in hunting him.

Taehyung continues to run throughout the forest as his feet bleed from running barefoot. When he stumbles over a tree root, a bullet flies toward him. However, right before the bullet pierces him, a heavy weight bulldozes into him, protecting him from the bullet.

"Hyung!" Taehyung shouts when he sees Yoongi's glowing red eyes.

"Run!" Yoongi grabs Taehyung and runs deeper into the forest.

As they run, Taehyung notices the scent of Yoongi's blood. He frantically looks at the older vampire and realizes that there is a bullet in the vampire's shoulder.

"Don't worry about me. Just keep running." Yoongi tells Taehyung as they run toward the home of Yoongi's deceased cloud. 

When Yoongi's step falters, Taehyung picks him up and continues running. Tears are streaming down Taehyung's face as he runs into the bamboo forest.

The young vampire comes to a halt when he realizes he is surrounded. He desperately holds Yoongi closer as the dogs close in on them.

"Little bat, put me down and leave," Yoongi mutters as he feels his body weakening.
