Chapter 4

Chris Dobey's Point of View

8th October 2023

I heard the door open and I stood up quickly. I rushed over to greet my boyfriend. He closed the door behind him and just stared into thin air. He looked so shocked and guilty. Without him even noticing I was there, I pulled him into a tight hug, now fearing the worst. "What happened Nathan?" I asked feeling worried that he wasn't hugging back. He didn't reply, I could feel him shake slightly. "Is Joe alive?" I asked hoping that he would just say 'yes'. "He is alive, and he'll be fine soon, but..." Nathan said quietly. "But what?" I asked, pulling away and locking eyes. Suddenly Nathan burst into tears and hugged me tightly. I felt even more worried for my boyfriend now. I helped him into the living room where we sat down on the couch. "Nathan... what happened?" I asked as he cried on my shoulder. "It's all my fault." he sobbed. "Why would it be your fault?" I asked while patting his back. "B- because I saw when he cried and hit himself, but I didn't do anything to help. I should have known why he was jealous of us, and that other things were happening with Jonny and Gezzy. Even with Ross. I should have helped him, but I did nothing." Nathan said as the tears streamed down his face. "That's not your fault Nathan," I said as I pulled him into a hug once again. "if he needed help so desperately, he should have said so." I said, despite knowing that Joe is the type who keeps everything to himself because he don't want to burden others. "But I--" Nathan attempted to say when I interrupted him. "It's not your fault Nathan." I said as we pulled away and locked eyes. "He tried to kill himself Chris." Nathan sobbed. My eyes widened in horror as he said those words. "W- what?" I asked hoping it was just my imagination that he said that. "He almost died." Nathan said as he continued to sob. I couldn't believe what I was hearing right now. Joe tried to kill himself... and he almost suceeded... and it's our fault because we didn't do anything to help him. I hugged Nathan tightly and he sobbed on my shoulder once again. I felt a tear forming in my eye. I never knew things were so terrible for Joe. Something else must have happened for him to go that far. "Appearently he saw Jonny and Gezzy making out, and--" Nathan started saying. "Wait what?? Are they dating??" I asked confused and surprised. "Yeah, that's what he says." Nathan replied. Before I could say anything Nathan continued. "And Ross told him that he loved him, but it was a lie." Nathan said. I bit my lip and hugged him tighter. I felt a tear slip down my face. "Someone needs to look after him, to make sure it won't happen again..." I said really not knowing who would do that. "Brendan said that he would." Nathan said. I felt relieved. Brendan is a nice guy, I'm sure he can help Joe. We pulled away and I kissed him quickly on the lips.
