Female members of the family apply turmeric paste made from gram flour and sandalwood to the bride and groom. The paste or ubtan is believed to have skin whitening and antiseptic properties and it is also believed that it enhances the beauty and glow of the bride and groom on the wedding day.


The next Rajasthani wedding ritual is the Mehndi ceremony. It is a symbol of good health and prosperity in which the hands and feet of a Marwari bride are decorated with henna. The Mehndi ceremony is usually accompanied by music, dancing and singing and is an opportunity for the bride to wear traditional attire such as a lehenga or saree.

Gathering

The Mehfil ceremony in Bania wedding rituals is similar to the Sangeet ceremony in Hindu customs. It is usually a musical evening. Where family and friends come together to dance, sing and celebrate this joyous occasion.

The families of the bride and groom usually perform traditional dances and sing songs.

The Farewell

Bidai also known as farewell. are a traditional and emotional celebration of Marwari culture and tradition. It is a farewell ritual in which the bride says goodbye to her parents and family as she prepares to start her new life with her husband and his family. During the bidaai ceremony the bride is escorted to the threshold of the wedding venue by her father.

After that she takes blessings from her parents and family members. She steps into the car and goes to her in-laws' house. Also, for auspicious omen, a coconut is placed under the tire of the car and the vehicle is asked to drive over the coconut. At last the bride leaves her parents and family with a heavy heart and teary eyes and starts a new chapter of her life.

Home Entry

In Marwari customs and traditions a newly married bride is considered to be the image of Goddess Lakshmi. This is why the bride is asked to step inside the house by kicking an urn filled with rice. It is believed that if the new bride enters the house while performing this ritual, wealth and prosperity never leave the house.
