Chapter 3

When I awake I have a head ache and sore muscles. I groan as I open my eyes revealing the blinding sun. There were no more curtains or blinds left so the light freely shone through the dirty, cracked window. I get up out of bed and get changed into some old clothes in the cupboard and walk out of my bedroom that now looked like a dumpster and went down stairs to the bathroom. I went and had a look in the mirror and saw that my ugly, ugly face was filled with dry tears, dry blood and a few bruises and cuts. I sigh, now used to this sight and wash away the dry blood and tears. When I am finished I walk to the kitchen where mum is drinking coffee and reading the news paper.

"Good morning." I say as I walk towards the pantry to get the pancake mixture.

"What are you doing Emily?" Mum inquires with the same emotionless expression in her face.

"Getting breakfast, would you like me to make you some too?" I reply.

"You didn't actually think that I would waste good food on you, did you?" She says as she sits there not even looking up at me. Without answering I walk up to my bedroom and start to clean up the mess. While cleaning I realised that I had barley any clothes left in my cupboard or shoes to wear. I walked out and went to inform my mother about my shortage of clothes and shoes.

"Emily, you have more than enough bloody shoes!" She shouted in my face. I was too frightened to respond so I just went up and sat in the darkest corner of my room and stair into the distance, I didn't have any more tees to cry anymore. Then heavy footsteps could be heard making their way up the stairs. My heart stops and my eyes slam shut and I brace myself as the door swings open...

I lay on the floor in pain as my mother gets up.

"I'm going into town today and I expect the house to be clean when I get back." Says mum and with that she's gone and my ears are filled with the faint sound of a car starting and driving away. I get up and begin to clean the house. I must say, it took for ever and the house was a complete mess!

I had to wash the dishes, clean the floors, clean the windows, tidy the house, do the washing, clean the benches and a whole lot of other hard chores. After I finish I go out to take the rubbish out, but then I am greeted by a miracle at the door....

Lucy and her parents.
