I don't stop running. And I won't. Not until I find Newt. The maze is so complicated, it must be manmade. But then again, who could make something like this up. Whoever did must have an eye for detail.
Running. Getting lost. Panicking. More running. Never stopping.
This process keeps repeating itself. Well, until there's a break in the pattern of course.
Suddenly, I trip and fall, face planting the ground. Blood is streaming down my face. My vision blurs, sending the whole world spinning like a bobbing. Darkness.
The sound of distant footsteps and voices snaps me out of my temporary slumber. My eyes flutter open, my eyesight still a bit blurry. Whilst trying to sit up, I search around. Desperately hoping that it is not what I think it is. But it could be something good as well. Newt.
The footsteps gradually get closer. Whatever it is, it must be just around the corner. Although sleep and darkness are threatening to take hold of me, I will myself to keep my eyes open, so that I am ready to face my fate in this hell hole. Cautiously I try to stand up, but I immediately stumble down again. "Aaaaah!" I scream. If a Griever is out there, it's obviously heard me by now. It seems as if the pain in my leg has returned once again, desperate to make my life a misery. Well, if there is any point in life any more. Whilst holding my breath, I quietly tend to my leg.
Then, I see a blonde haired boy peeking around the corner. He's just standing there, a concerned expression plastered on his face.
"Newt! You're-" He puts a finger to his lips and hurries over to me, crouches down.
"What are you doing here Netty?"
"I had to find you."
"Why? And why is your nose bleeding?"
"I had to find you cause I was worried. You said you'd stay with me; and I kinda assumed that would mean ALL night." I say, ignoring the second question. I sigh deeply, thinking it through. "You know what, don't worry 'bout it; I'm overreacting anyway."
"Netty, I came out here so that I could check out the Grievers with Minho and Thomas. I wanted to see if they had a programming system, and if we could actually fight them; Thomas killed one the other night."
"Sorry, my bad. I didn't know."
"You don't have to say you're sorry." Unexpectedly, he leans in. He's centimetres from my face when we hear a deafening sound, metal grinding against metal. Immediately our heads snap in the direction of another interruption.
"Alright you little lovebirds," it's Minho. Newt and I blush profusely." Time to go, the doors are closing. "
"But I can't walk." I mutter.
"What? Why?" Newt asks.
"You know the pain in my leg that I had before. " Newt nods and the other two shake their heads. " I think it has come back."
" I can carry you." Newt says.
"Ok" I respond. Newt picks me up in bridal style and begins running.
After a lot of sprinting, we begin to get closer to the closing doors. We're about 6 metres from the Glade. All of a sudden Newt looks down at me with his beautiful brown eyes, and as I look deeper into them I see colours that don't even exist. Gorgeous colours that reflect his lovely personality. Time seems to stop at that moment.
Then, as the doors are a metre from closing Newt throws me through. I land on the ground face-first, but muster up just enough strength to watch as Newt runs up to the doors, sadness reflecting in his eyes. And just as the doors are centimetres from closing, I manage to make the words out that Newt is mouthing, "I love you."
